how to solve the issue?
first off i have contacted my surgery and will be chatting with a doctor on thursday about this.
basically it has been a week with this constant acid reflux taste in my mouth after any drink/food etc it (also bloating after a meal).
at first i was hoping it would go away like when it has before (occasionally had this issue) but it hasn't and is getting worse (especially the horrible acid taste).
has anyone else suffered with this problem and what i might be able to do about it? am now 50 if that makes any difference (it all seems to be breaking down my body etc lol.

I had chronic acid reflux ~2.5 years ago in the early months of my long covid. I was using Rennie far too frequently for a several months, mainly at bedtime, without consulting doctor... It no doubt is related to problem in recent times when I get food stuck in throat and urgently have to drink fluid for food to get moving again into my stomach!
Try and keep away from triggers, for me it was fatty food (cheese) and acidic food/drink (coffee, diet coke, jam sandwiches).
Oat milk with oats tended to help.
In bed, lie on left side, this puts top stomach opening uppermost and should reduce reflux.
Gaviscon/Peptac. Forms a jelly at the top of your stomach and keeps stuff down where it should be. Free from your pharmacist under Common Ailments in Wales, not sure about in England/Scotland.
It can be a sign of various problems, all of which are more likely as you get into middle age, so do keep that GP appointment, even if only to get it logged.
Ironically it’s probably due to low stomach acidity. Try taking some apple cider vinegar (organic, unpasteurised with the ‘mother’) Lidl and Aldi sell it for about £2 a bottle. A big glug in some sparkling water. Give it a go.
The GP will prescribe tablets which help and then you will be on them for ages as they don't really cure anything but rather suppress it. Or you could try and get to root cause which is typically diet. Seems to be common once you get to 50's as guess body can't deal with stuff as it used to.
I avoid coffee, tomatoes, chilli, alcohol amongst other things, last meal a few hours before bed.
I am having tests for similar right now. Had issues since April. Proton pump inhibitors on prescription help but that's not fixing the cause, but reduces the acid produced. A H pylori infection is suspected so that's getting looked at now.
Ask your drs for some tests - stool samples or a breath test depending on local NHS area.
I haven't tried excluding anything, but coffee, booze, tomatoes and chillis are consumed very regularly.
I get it from time to time, usually when feeling a bit ill any cold/flu type thing sets it off, as does beer. Dr prescribed some pills that reduce stomach acid production lanzoprazole or something, they help.
it will be diet, something has changed or you have eaten.
Blue top milk is good to keep it settled
Talking to your doctor is the main thing. It is often diet but can also be associated with a hiatus hernia (a colleagues wife had this).
Reducing alcohol, spicy food and stress often helps.
I've had stomach issues for 6 years. I'm on PPI but it limits the problems not eradicates them.
Eat earlier in the evening, do a little post dinner walk if you can and limit sitting down will also help
Try kefir or kombucha
Yes, had same problem for many months and after various tests was prescribed Omeprazole, a ppi. Stops the reflux but does not cure the problem. I had minimal side effects but they were very hard to get off as you get a massive acid rebound which is very unpleasant.
I am off them now and have moderated my diet. All now good.
As above, there are various remedies and foods to avoid. I found the apple cider vinegar helped a lot.
But get checked out by the GP, there are other reasons that may be the cause that you want to eliminate

Everyone is different but diet/food triggers is a common cause of acid reflux. For me it's red wine, spicy foods and too much sugar (all things I love)

I went cold turkey off omeprazole, thought I was going to die until I googled the withdrawal effects and discovered it was only acid hypersecretion 🙄

I agree, it's only one possible cause among many. Assuming it's that and treating it accordingly could very well make matters worse.

I assumed it was diet until an unrelated problem necessitated a scan and lo and behold a hiatus hernia was found.
I've lived with this for years. For me i can manage it by avoiding eating in excess. A full stomach will guarantee a night of unrest and Gaviscon. I have strong triggers like high fat foods (pizza is a killer), Indian takeaway (its the ghee) and whiskey but i know that if i eat early, sit upright and manage my portion size i can still eat my trigger foods.
But if its a Saturday night blowout then i just take Omeprazole beforehand than then keep the Gaviscon next to the bed for the inevitable 2am volcano in my throat.
