Cough subsiding here. Chest tightness relaxing. Feeling more alert again.
Might even risk a bike ride tomorrow.
... all lost our sense of taste and smell.
Do you have a loss of appetite?
One of the symptom mentioned in the far east was a loss of appetite.
I am 49 and have started having symptoms of something since Monday/Tuesday.
The symptoms were diarrhea on Monday, a gradually worsening cough, running a temperature, muscular aches and an increasing wheeziness in my chest.
The sun has been shining here for the last couple of days and I have tried to go outside into my garden and enjoy the sunshine, but each time I quickly felt quite chilled and had to come in.
I started working from home on Tuesday and since then my family and I are self-isolating.
all lost our sense of taste and smell. Totally gone.
Both the confirmed cases I know said the same thing independently of each other.
The smell and taste thing is very interesting. Only case reports so far but then I guess it’s not on the priority list of symptoms to check if you’re about to stick someone on a Ventilator
My wife came down with a cough on Tuesday and we’ve both lost all sense of smell and taste. I feel a bit sinusy but no temp or cough
Sounds like some people have Mono / Glandular Fever! I had it earlier in my 40's and it knocked me on my back.
I'm off work for two weeks due to getting a mild sore throat. I don't know about the UK, but the on-line checker in Canada basically says that is you have any remote cough / cold / flu symptoms then you need to self isolate. I don't have any of the main symptoms so who knows.....
The difficulty is the syphons can vary a lot. From a a few independent groups of 1,000 positive people only 60% actually had a dry cough yet 99% had a fever but even then the fever can be just feeling hot for an hour. A few people have diarrhoea, many have sore throat, many have fatigue, many have tight chest and so on.
I would put money on my wife having it due to combination of symptoms and now feeling as though she has mild pneumonia. If my wife has had it then I am sure I would as well as we have taken no measure of isolation between us over the last 3 weeks.
Hopefully the anti body test will be widely available soon and hopefully she will get tested she is NHS and works specifically with elderly. Once people know they have had it then can go back to normal and the more people that can go back to normal the better.
Since Thursday, my better half is breathing surprisingly heavy whenever she gets up and walks between rooms, which makes me thing she has the real deal. If it wasn't for that I'd be unsure, as I reckon she is coughing less than Tuesday evening.
I'm still not coughing, but very fatigued and even for me, very woolly-headed with dull headache and so far this morning a slightly milder general body ache. But in "normal" times, I wouldn't have gone into work this morning, for what should have been my final shift before a week of annual leave... How I've felt since Weds has definitely been worse than the relatively mild "manflu19" that began on 27th Feb.
I just hope this is the real deal and we don't get re-infected with a mutation of the virus, not just because of how that might complicate getting full sick pay from work and not having another 7+ day absence not put on my attendance procedure record, but because just like this time last year I'm rapidly losing all the cycling performance gains I made in earnest since January.
A girl at work returned from a conference in the US in which there were several confirmed cases. Airbus tested and confirmed she has it, deep cleaning and quarantine of all areas she might have used and instructions to staff she came in to contact with to self isolate. That was a week ago. Just yesterday she confirmed that her persistent cough has turned into breathing difficulties. She’s 25.
Those of us self isolating - anyone else in a flat with a communal stairway? We live at the top of a mainly commercial building so the main stair counts as a public space. By my understanding if I obey the rules properly then I am actually not even supposed to go out of the flat! I haven't since Wed! Not even a garden to walk around! I cannot even take the rubbish out of the flat - we are going to have to store it on the roof I think. Anyone else isolating in a flat?
Go and get some fresh air... Just try not to touch stair bannisters on the communal bit! 😉
I can go on the roof for fresh air - riding a bike on the roof might be a tad dangerous!
todays project is to build a step for exercising on and bodge up some weights.

It could be a long two weeks on here for a lot of us now TJ is self isolating, Only Joking TJ hope you are all okay and its not too long.
Only self diagnosis - so no actual confirmed cases for anybody yet then?
Does anybody actually know 100% of somebody with coronavirus; as in not just their word for it?
Daughter had all the symptoms in January - the doctors couldn't diaganose, I subsequently contracted the same.
Ironically she wrote an article on CV in China, whilst on work experience at the I, which appeared on page 5, that was exactly 2 months ago today.....!
My symptoms have definitely eased this morning, still coughing but no where near as much as previous days, chest tightness / shortness of breath also eased. Roll on Wednesday.
Went into the workshop yesterday. Capo is there wearing gloves and telling us to keep our distance as he had just been tested due to his chesty cough.
Cheers, mate!
Falkirk mark - I am trying not to abuse the hospitality on here! 😉

Not many will due to lack of testing. Mt wife was taken to hospital in ambulance 2 weeks ago and they checked heart, lungs, blood test etc,. but no Coronavirus test even though she had tight chest.
She had a follow up phone appointment with GP who said it is likely but could be another virus. Continual chest ache, high fatigue, walking around garden left her knackered and needing to go back to bed. Again, no coronavirus test.
Wouldn't you have tested just to either rule it out or catch another case...

See my post back on first page, yes I know someone with a confirmed coronavirus test result. Caught it while skiing in Austria a few weeks ago, she's fully recovered now, she said it was not a big deal.
I have read of a few saying they think they had it in January this year; my wife and I also had the persistent dry cough and associated lurgy that this coronavirus seems to be identified by in January too ... maybe there was an earlier strain doing the rounds in the UK before now, or is it more probable that it was just a similar virus?
I guess we shall see within the next few weeks when this thing really takes off ...
went from possibly to really quite possibly this morning when my wife (who had no awareness that this was a symptom) complained that she'd no sense of taste or smell. We've both been on paracetamol for a few days feeling shite, or in my case shite and weird. Neither of us have had more than a v slight cough and my energy levels have been fine. Likely vector would be a panel meeting I was at in London, tues/weds week before last, including a dinner. Folk flying in. Academics, a few of whom do a few front-line sessions including a GP/dean who'd done 11 hours of being coughed on the day before. So there you go. Possible. Been isolating and wfh all week (not a great idea as spent Friday morning trying to reverse a cock-up I'd caused on Thursday evening, but hey), wish now I'd/we'd isolated earlier.
My GF is feeling much better and wants to see me, but I've said no. She had a bad chest for 1 day, but it was been improving yesterday and today, no persistent cough, temperature etc. I think she's going to be ok, and tbh hope she's had it and is now immune. I'd almost rather get it now, and get it out of the way.
Possibly.
Both had the cough, the fever and the dodgy chest.
Lack of appetite, taste and smell? Yup.
Lethargy.
Banging headache and constant dry mouth.
Started last Saturday (her) and Monday (me).
Still got most of the symptoms now, but better than they were.
Self isolated for this week, looks like we'll be doing the same next week.
Getting out for walks in quiet places, usually late at night or early morning.
Don't have the energy to ride bikes.
Not had to go shopping yet as we'd just done a big shop the day Sue came down with it.
Neighbours have dropped off essentials.
Work (NHS) have been amazing.
Hopefully this is it and I can get back to work ASAP.
I was laid low with something back in November, with symptoms that were the same as many on here have described.
I went from feeling fine to having an awful temperature, shivering uncontrollably (while fully dressed, wrapped in a three season sleeping bag, under the bed covers) to having sweat pour out of me. This came on over the space of a morning. I also had no energy, barely enough to get me to the bathroom to deal with the diarrhea. I was pretty much bed bound for seven days. Following which, I had a sore throat that lasted for the next week.
The initial symptoms came on very quickly and lasted just over a week, and I was pretty much wiped out for the next week. In total I reckon it was three weeks from start to finish before I felt even remotely like getting on my bike - I managed a six mile easy ride and was completely done in afterwards.
All last year I was working on a Chinese land drilling rig. Close to the end of my October hitch the Chinese drill crew did a crew change (just a few days before I went home). I developed the above symptoms just a day or two after getting home. There were a few of us Europeans went home at the same time and at least one other came down with the same symptoms I had.
I initially thought I had had a gastric flue, now I'm not so certain.
Started getting a dry cough & very tight chest week prior to half term in February.
Hot stinging eyes, really persistent cough & hammering the asthma meds. Anyway went skiing in Les Deux Alpes and this continues then turned into a slightly more productive cough. Actually felt ok though.
Anyway, fast forward a week after returning & I had to fly back out there to collect my camper, which had broken down during our trip.
I picked the van up in Grenoble & used the trip as an excuse to visit a mate who lives in Morzine. I felt absolutely bolloxed during the flight and gradually got more tired during the drive. 1st night there I slept 16 hrs; 2nd day I managed 2 hrs skiing before coughing myself to a headache. That night I slept another 12hrs straight. This is unknown for me.
Anyway on the drive back I slept in the van and woke up dripping wet through with sweat despite temp hovering around 1 degree.
The next day my neck glands were so big I couldn’t turn my head and my throat was so sore I could hardly swallow. Very weirdly I actually felt loads better than I have for a few weeks. My daughter got the same symptoms 3 days in and developed a horrible dry hacking cough which has lasted almost exactly 10 days.
Anyway, within 4 days of having the swollen glands & sore throat my cough had totally gone and I feel ok. However, I tried a slow treadmill jog today and my lung capacity feels about 1/4 of a month ago and struggled to maintain 9kmh for 20 mins (I was running at 5 minute Km pace beginning Feb). Also felt like my heart wasn’t beating right (nervy fluttery feeling).
So I’ve no idea if I’ve had it but there’s certainly something been going on. I wish I could take a test to see if I’ve had it, just to calm my nerves a bit. As an overweight 49 year old asthmatic I’m slightly nervous.
Close to the end of my October hitch the Chinese drill crew did a crew change (just a few days before I went home).
In early November 2019 there was already talks amongst the far east social media circles of a strange virus appearing in China doing the round. By late November there was already warning by social media in HK not to go to China as death was already started to appear. Judging from the incubation period of 2 to 3 weeks I suspect the virus started much earlier than November and probably even in September (weather getting colder).
Anyone had the breathlessness from walking between rooms, as if you had just sprinted and now had that symptom go?
Better half developed this on day 2 after cough started, still here on day 5.
Besides a gentle paced Zwift stage 4 this morning, I've felt wiped the rest of the day, when I left turbo set up hoping to do another session that I just never felt up for... But still no coughing or breathlessness, just upper chest; throat; head; limbs.
So of all the people who feel they may have have it, did anybody else wake up in the morning feeling incredibly thirsty?
As in a 'two pints of water + a pint of orange juice & lemonade' at 7am before you can even talk or start to feel normal type of thirst?
And this is coming from somebody who doesn't usually have a cup of tea / coffee / juice etc in the morning and normally only gets a glass of water at work at 9-ish.
Been drinking lots since dry throat started on Weds.
By late November there was already warning by social media in HK not to go to China as death was already started to appear.
Never heard of this and one of my BiL's works in the ward at Princess Margret hospital that deals with all infection cases here.
If that was the case our social disturbances since June last year were very fortuitous as it knocked visitors from the mainland down to about 10% the usual number, probably helped us keep the spread contained somewhat.
Tight chest on and off, head aches, temperature every now and again but not terrible. No cough. These symptoms for last 4 or 5 days and a bit snotty today.
Have I got it?
ctk - probably not but thats not good enough. You need to go into isolation. sorry.
I get a tree pollen allergy this time of year so had sore throat, tight chest and dry cough since the end of Feb. No temperature though so experts say I'm ok. So I could have mild symptoms or just an allergy (antihistamines taken every day atm) I work in a hospital though so I feels kinda wrong to be there.
But no test so no idea.
This is a big issue really. People would act differently if they knew, both during the illness and afterwards.
How would you act differently if I told you definitely had coronavirus? Whatever the answer is - do that now. Even if you don’t have Covid19 - the precautions will stop you spreading your infection to others, who will then have to self isolate - some of them will be much needed healthcare workers, and your other infection is still potentially a problem for the most vulnerable (who have less back up right now due to the stress on the system).
Even if I tell you you definitely had the infection and have now recovered all the same precautions are still the best way to avoid sharing the disease. Eg. washing your hands may make no difference to you if you become immune but it still stops you passing it between people.
I might have or maybe not. Who knows. Came back from France skiing just as it was kicking off and close to where that first case was in the Alps. Shitty cold. Just considered it normal for a ski trip. I never get colds at any other time. It's just the flights, airports etc that spread it.
But no temperature, so assumed not. Still, some at work were not keen on me coming into the office.
Actually somethings been dragging on with this as constantly having blocked or stuffy nose but maybe it's a sinus infection. Or it's the after effects of a mild CV (though actually, coronavirus can be a cause of the common cold, just not Covid-19).
Is it absolutely the case that you'll get the fever if you have it, even if mild?
🤷♂️
Dry cough, stuffy nose for the past 5 days. No temperature though.
Hiya,
I've just over it I had the dry cough sore throat at first. I then got a headache felt tired then the kinda what I can only describe as a panic attack type loss of lung capacity. At the time I didn't associate this to covid-19, but comparing notes to my son who got it at university it was the same. My wife got it she had the cough headache but it progressed to a temperature. One night was bad and she got told off and I wrapped her in a blanket turned the heating on and had the log burner full furnice. We are both in recovery I feel fine, wife two days behind me. Lung capacity seems key I live in portishead so I cannot go anywhere without going up a massive hill so lung capacity is good.
Anyway it effects the older much worse than us so be responsible even though you feel well you must isolate.
JeZ

By the time the news of the virus death reached the social media in HK it was already early November. The Chinese govt did not make any announcement but the social media in HK mentioned that many people were already ill. HK social media kept alerting people of some contagion outbreak but because they were social media the govt just let it be. It was not until the Chinese New Year that the govt realised the severity of the contagion and immediately enforced a total lock-down.
Thought I'd bump this, just wondering how many people my have already got this. Son was really hot the other night (happens from time to time), has a bit of a cough and feels a bit under the weather.
Wife and I both just feel a bit run down, headachey, possible sore throat, in my case slightly sore eyes. I don't feel right but under normal circumstances would have been to work (WFH at the moment and not going out anyway).
Anyone else with very mild symptoms?
My wife (college head of SEND) started to have a head ache / cough / feeling like sh!t about 2 1/2 weeks ago and was instantly ordered to WFH by her college. Had the eldest child sent home from school with a temperature the following Monday, and we've just completed 2 weeks self-isolation. TBH shes still not quite right, and there were definitely better days and worse. Her temp wouldn't come down and she was proper lethargic. I had the sore throat and head aches but nothing worse, the boys were ok with calpol and a rest.
A week ago I'd have said that we had it. Now I'm really hoping we did, and that the majority of the family weren't effected too bad. Guess only time will tell.
Stay safe everyone, wash your hands and don't be a dick.
Thought I'd add my experience for all to benefit.
16 days ago I developed sinus pain and slight cold like symptoms. Very slight temp. Got a bit worse over the week. Some days I felt fine though, others the sinus pain was nasty but bearable. I'm asthmatic so my chest was playing up a little but no more than a normal cold. No cough, no sore throat, not snot. Was feeling fine on Friday and thought I'd managed to shake it.
8 days ago I got up on the Saturday morning, built a manual machine in anticipation of the impending lockdown and then found I was absolutely exhausted. Went to bed and did very little until Monday morning. Didn't even get to play on the machine! Felt a bit better so did a full day's work at home. Tuesday chest was bad, very tired again, sinus pain back in full effect. Called the doc who suggested sinusitis and prescribed antibiotics and steroids for my chest. (Never had a bad chest like this before). Sent Thegirlneeds out to pick them up. When she came back I was totally spaced out, could barely string a sentence together to tell her I was going to bed. Wobbly, shaky and generally not right. Necked some pills and went to bed until the morning. Wednesday woke up feeling a little better. By the evening thought the pills were working, but I was still tired. Sinus pain going or gone. Thursday morning felt great! Clear chest, not sinus pain. took the dog for 30 min walk around the block and realised something was up when I was properly out of breath on some steps I normally run up. Things got progressively worse through the day. No sinus pain but shaky and feeling like someone was sitting on my chest.
Thursday eve... really struggling to get enough breath in so called 111. They went through all the checklists to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack or an asthma attack and then told me to go straight to a&e. I was shitting it. Needless to say the NHS were marvellous. Got me in, x-rayed lungs, blood test, ecg, stuck me on a nebuliser and oxygen. I started breathing more easily. They asked if I wanted to go home as I was probably safer there! I said yes and off I went. They couldn't test me for c19 as I was not admitted. The doc said it was 'probably' c19, and that it may take many weeks or even months for my lungs to recover properly.
So fri/sat/sun I've spent watching telly and lying about. Every time I try to do anything my chest flares up and I feel spaced. Almost like I'm jetlagged. I'm sucking on the extra inhalers a&e gave me the moment it gets tight. Feeling slightly better today, and this seems to be a gradual improvement rather than the off/on feelings of the last fortnight.
I've spoken to a number of people now who've had first-hand professional experience of people with c19. It seems most of my symptoms line up except for the obvious lack of cough/high temp. But the most telling was from a friend who is a critical care nurse. She said that they are getting a lot of people coming in that are coping ok with the symptoms until day 8-10 and which point the 'drop off a cliff'. This was certainly my experience.
So, if I can offer any advice from my experience of a suspected c19 case:
- If you've got any odd respiratory symptoms and you feel tired then just stop. Do nothing. You'll need the energy.
- Be aware of the 8-10-day drop off. You seriously don't want to end up in a&e at the moment. I had to hold back my tears saying goodnight to my kids as I didn't know when or even if I'd see them again.
- It can last a while! I suspect I'll still be laid up at day 20.
- Take good care of yourselves and everyone around you. This has completely shagged me and put me in a&e. I'm otherwise fit, healthy, and have a strong immune system!
I would imagine a significant proportion of people who think they have it will not.
To get tested some will need to have symptoms but the results show about 1 in 10 tested have it, the others will most likely have flu etc.
My partner returned from an event in Belgium* after direct contact with an Italian who tested positive and developed a temp/cough etc 5 days after returning to the uk, she managed to get tested as was deemed ‘vulnerable’ but thankfully returned a negative result.
*this was end of April before recorded cases all across Europe.

If you check out the main general Coronavirus thread, franksinatra was hospitalised a few days back with the thing and was on a specialist COVID-19 ward. His most recent post, thank god, says he's back home and on the mend. Fingers crossed for a rapid recovery.
Mrs RNP (wife of 25 years) 46year old.
Started with symptoms 14days ago, severe fever followed with dry continuous cough and headaches. 4 or 5 days later started with reduced lung function, day 8 (IIRC) fell off a cliff - struggling/gasping for breath, going clammy, had been doing the online 111 corona checker, rang 999 when it looked like she was about to have a heart attack/stop breathing. Amby dispatched and checked her over - admitted to AE. Bloods/xray - released 8 hours later.
Days 8 - 12 ups and downs , one day feeling better the next reduced lung function again. Feeling completely exhausted throughout.
Day 14 have turned a corner, lung function lot better, not as exhausted, mentally feeling better. Hopefully out of the woods.
Not tested whilst in AE. I have no symptoms despite no separation in the house.
Scary saying goodbye to her not knowing if id ever see her again.
I'm still none the wiser on virus yes or no. With the greater range of symptoms coming through I am tending more to yes. That is more based on symptom bingo of what I have or haven't had. Problem with making those assumptions is the Gov has also said there can be flu / virus already in circulation with similar symptoms. I did chest first and finished (finishing) with metallic taste / sore throat.
Now three weeks since I first felt out of sorts but this is more joining the dots as I wasn't thinking about breathing problems I had before my temp / aches started.
Did self isolation between 12th and 20th. Didn't go shopping until the 21st and was on a major avoidance mission. I did read the guidance twice before going out!
As with previous post I started isolation based on temp increasing and aches etc plus two people I have close contact with having same symptoms and also isolating.
Nothing major on the cough front. Temperature was more sleeping under a couple of thick winter duvets on a very hot summer night. I've done a fever temperature before and it didn't seem like that. Aches were worst in my thighs - these still felt weak on the Zwift last Saturday. Few days prior to going for isolation I had breathing difficulties - out of breath walking up stairs but have had this before. Mostly with asthma, usually one bad bout of this a year. Didn't think anything of it.
Since the last update - last ten days roughly - still felt out of sorts with low energy but improving nicely. A week ago I think I was confusing better with less bad. Now I'm good for walking about - 5miles on Sunday. Better than the 20th when I was having to stop part way up gradients for a rest. Some time around the 20th I picked up a metallic taste in my mouth / around the taste buds. Bid of a dull ache around the kidneys and a sore throat. The metal taste and sore throat is really down to very vague background - there but not a big deal. Chest feels a bit sensitive - as in how it feels a couple of days after a bad coughing session. Mild aching in a workout way if that makes sense.
I did get back on the Zwift and plodded round the easy circuit - again not much strength. At least I was over 100watts for the whole ride. Defiantly couldn't do more than the 10km - even that felt more like a 50km mission ride. Not really going to push this, just wait for it to come back. I wonder if trying the Zwift two weeks ago today was knocked me back and made the next few days worse. I need to be less stubborn on keeping going!
I was in a chain of people with similar symptoms. I also know a couple of people who have had the classic cough / high temperature. These are people weren't collected to my chain.
Amongst the people I was in contact with before isolation - no one seems to have gone down with anything. Even with the absence of a diagnosis I found I still went through the what if I have thoughts about onward infection. Not sure about other peoples experience of that but I guess it's going to be a common one - you cant think I might have it and not think of all the implications. Especially when there was so much this is what happens if one person spreads and we have not precautionary measures in place.
People's reactions to saying I've self isolating have been interesting - some are fine, some are suitably sarcastic but a small number are genuinely afraid. Which is quite hard if you haven't seen people, speak to them and they are looking for a way to get away. Speaking to them from 20ft away and down wind if you were wondering.
If I've had it I feel I have been lucky and mostly inconvenienced and it would appear fortunate not to have brought it to anyone else.
My cousin, who I've not seen for probably 20 years, is currently in hospital being ventilated and 'put to sleep' with it.
He's really 40's and as far as I'm aware, no underlying health conditions but overweight. That's all the second hand info I have.
I'm hoping he's alright but only time will tell I guess ☹️
RNP good to read MrsRNP is on the mend.
Only skim read through the latest replies – so still nobody actually confirmed as having it then?
Wrong question - it should be "anybody been tested?"
I’m pretty sure me and Mrs Lunge have.
Had a week of no energy, a cough and lungs feel a bit crap, breathing shallow.
Thankfully I’m working from home and she’s not back in for 8 days.
Not confirmed though, obviously.
Wrong question – it should be “anybody been tested?”
I think @Franksinatra has, he's been posting on the discussion thread.
I was on the change between phone 111 and don't phone just get out of Dodge and back to your house. I don't appear on anyone's stats.
I a trick was missed by not collating information on self isolators. I guess it could be done retrospectively by asking companies how many people were on sick in the last few weeks compared to same period previous year. Not really sure about what use it would be in the grand scheme vs where we are at now.

RNP good to read MrsRNP is on the mend
.
Thanks!
I know a few who think they have had it with varying symptoms from mild cold, through to fairly shit and totally wiped out for a few days, but of course undiagnosed.
I only know of one full diagnosis, my colleague's husband.
He died this morning.
First off, condolences for their loss.
Did they have any underlying health issues/age?
Had a week of no energy, a cough and lungs feel a bit crap, breathing shallow.
Exactly how I'd describe it.
Really good to hear Frank and Mrs RNP are doing OK, sounds pretty scary.
A colleague tested positive last week. He said he had a cough for a day and some very mild chest tightness but that was it thankfully. No fever or other symptoms.
Just shows how broad the symptoms can be.
late 50's....don't know about health issues.
Just learned another colleague has been taken in to ITU.......late 20's and healthy.
A colleague tested positive last week. He said he had a cough for a day and some very mild chest tightness but that was it thankfully. No fever or other symptoms.

got exaxctly the same symptons with the cough saturday. dry ticklish cough (can't remember having anything quite like it, came on remain constant then departed in a day) nothing too drastic no fever (if anything a little low on temp) though I had quite a bad headache, on 7 days of self isolation will have to wait for the home antibody test to find out if it was covid-19.
Close friend and colleague has it. Fit and healthy 38 year old. He lives in South Africa where testing is more widespread and despite not being admitted to hospital he has been positively confirmed as having it.
He caught it over here on a 2 week business trip in March (usually people take home a giant Toblerone from Duty Free, but he took home a deadly virus!). Our office have been on full alert, but thankfully nobody else has caught it. I must admit part of me wanted to catch a mild dose as a proxy for a vaccine, particularly given how well he has been feeling.
He has described manflu-like symptoms. No cough but shortness of breath, headache and temperature. It has however knocked him for six and he has been left exhausted but nowhere near death's door. Not the most fun he has ever had for 2 weeks. The most telling comment he has made was that if he didn't know that coronavirus was 'a thing', he wouldn't have thought much of it and carried on working.
Sadly it would appear that some people are not so lucky. My grandmother is a very frail 90 and lives in a care home. Her neighbour (with whom she has daily close contact) has been diagnosed and admitted to hospital. The doctors do not expect her out in anything other than a box and are setting the family up for that. She is in the ICU where there are beds, but in a few weeks' time I fear that she wouldn't justify a bed and would be sent home to die. Now waiting for news of my grandmother who we haven't been allowed to see for 4 weeks since her 90th birthday.
Brutal times.
I think my eldest daughter has it,she's eight. Hacking cough, temperature, lethargy, tiredness and loss of appetite. She's been sleeping for a couple of hours each afternoon. She first got her cough a week last Saturday and seemed to turn the corner last weekend. We've tried to not make a big deal about it as she's pretty anxious about the whole thing.
Friend of a friend has been diagnosed and hospitalised with it.
He’s a Healthy mid 40’s very fit and strong rugby player. He spend 2 nights in hospital with breathing issues but has been sent home now so looks like he’s past the worst.
Wee fella we use on a good number of occasions for painting passed away as a result of the virus on Saturday.
A lovely wee man, originally from the western isles, he'd come in and paint, when you weren't supposed to be listening he'd softly sing some lovely laments in his native Gaelic tongue.
Always played the wee crabbit man, but in reality he was a gem, and would do anything for you, looked after a lot of the other pensioners around here too, sure he probably never took any money from them.
Rest in peace Charlie. 💙💙💙
Well my gran died of it last night, contracted in hospital whilst being treated for copd. Sad she was completely on her own.
Sorry to hear that nobeer and DT78. Everyone in my family has been ok thus far but I shudder to think how hard it would be if one gets taken to hospital given you can't visit.
Really sorry, DT78. Charlie sounded lovely, nobeer. 🙁
Sorry for your loss DT78, that's so sad. Nobeerinthefridge, sad but at the same a nice story.
99 % sure I had it last week. Started with a sore throat and strange feeling in the back of my head. Development into a fever , freezing one minute roasting the next. Then came a sore stomach followed by the worst Diahorrea Ive ever had. Still had the shivers. Its now pretty much gone but just left with a slight sore throat and not as much energy as I normally would .
I would hate to think how my mum would feel with the symptons .
My fiancée works in the NHS As a Radiographer in direct contact with some of these positive tested patients for C19. She’s absolutely wiped out from what she’s seeing, pretty harrowing sights and I’m also very scared she gets it or brings it home.
She broke down in tears the other night saying she expects she will get it she just doesn’t want to die from it...
We've been in self isolation for around 3 weeks now, Mrs is 24 weeks pregnant and her work colleague was sent home with suspected C19, so we were told to go wfh and not to come back (both work in the same building).
Woken up this morning with a tight chest, both have slight headaches and a bit of a cough, she has some nausea and digestion pains, not sure if thats pregnancy related though but no fevers so far. Not feeling too run down, still able to work etc. Just hoping this doesn't progress, pregnant wife, 3yr old and I've had chest issues since my previous flu in december/jan 🙁
Friend in Denmark has just been diagnosed, he's been isolated from his partner and 2yr old for weeks now, thought it had gone away but flared up again once he was feeling better.
Cycling buddy of mine and his family have had it. Not too serious, usual symptoms, and the teens less so affected. Brother self isolated for 2 weeks as his little lad was poorly, but not sure what it was, so they were on the safe side.
Anyone just been 'unwell' for a few weeks ? I've had the 'runs' for a few days last week, and a right snotty nose for weeks, which has progressed to bits of blood in the mucus. Occasional temperatures/sweats.
Daughter was ill two weeks ago, high fever for a day, sore head and occasional cough. we think that was it for her. Wife has some odd symptoms, but is generally knackered. I've been ok so far.
However, 3 or so weeks ago I had an upset stomach, headache and overnight temperature. Didn't think much of it at the time, thought the sweats were due to something I'd eaten. that was possibly it, but the trouble is, we just don't know until we can get hold of the antibody test kits.
I do have sinus congestion, but it's coming into allergy season, so I normally end up a bit snotty around this time of year.
Spoke to my GP today, mainly because over 3weeks on from feeling off I wasn't overly happy with the way my chest feels after light exercise. Having gone through symptoms and timescales they thought highly likely to have had it, a step up from self diagnosis bingo. Probably as certain as I can be until an antibody test is available. Just been advise to take it easy on the exercise front. Walking and light cycling. I explained light cycling was all I'm good for.
First, condolences to those on here who've lost someone to COVID-19, very sad.
I'm another who's had some stuff that could be the thing. A few weeks back I woke up in the middle of the night with a sharp headache and nausea, threw up a few times, shivery and sweaty. Developed an intermittent cough. I also had some odd blurred vision stuff around the same time. I put it down to stress and spinach.
I actually monitor my HRV levels using a smartphone app called ithlete and had a slight bit of a decline around that point, but was basically okay. Then I did two hilly, but not brutal cross rides on consecutive days over the weekend and the next day, Monday - roughly ten days ago - my HRV had fallen off very obviously and my resting HR had risen.
Normally taken standing along with HRV it's around 50bpm or so, it's climbed to the mid 70s. At the same time my HRV dropped down to the high 60s/low 70s. It's essentially a measure of holistic recovery / wellness and I've been monitoring it for years now. For context, when I had a proper death lurgee which left me flat out on the sofa for two weeks, it dropped below 40, I think, so my current scores aren't particularly low. If I've well recovered though, I'd expect HRV to be in the mid-80s, so scoring consistently around 65-70 is a definite fall-off.
The other symptom that's come and gone is a weird tightness in the chest, that feels almost like burning, and breathlessness if I fast walk up the stairs for example, a little like being at high altitude.
The other day I tried a very gentle recovery spin on the turbo, normally at around 130 watts constant, my HR at that level is normally around 110 to 115 bpm, currently it's 130 or so. I ride a fair bit, ftp just shy of 300 watts, so i'm reasonably fit for a guy in his 50s. Clearly for the same amount of work, I'm needing more blood / oxygen, which suggests my lung function really is impaired and I'm not just imagining it. Finally, I've spent the last week and a half feeling generally fatigued and achey.
It also turns out that Mrs (sic) BWD had a four-day head-ache and an itchy throat / occasional cough just before I did, which she also put down to stress. For context, she has the immune system of a cockroach, so it's entirely believable that she had COVID-19. She also recorded around 180npm HR on part of a steady flat walk, so there was something odd happening there
I suspect I would have managed the same way if I hadn't doubled up on two hilly back-to-back rides which pushed me over the edge. My advice, with retrospective wisdom from this, is that if you do feel even slightly odd, back off.
As per a lot of other posters here, without testing, I honestly can't say whether I've had COVID. I never had a persistent fever, just the odd shivery bout, and I didn't lose my appetite or sense of taste and smell, though I have had a slightly metallic taste in my mouth - reminded me of flagyl side effects, the stuff you take to wipe out giardia. I've just plateaued along feeling shite and weak and coughing and doing the tight chest / bad breathing thing. I guess it could be or could equally be another, different viral thing.
I swapped e-mails with the guy who created the ithlete app and his take was that serious cases would probably present with a resting HR of over 100 and breathing at 20 breaths per minute plus along with a lowered HRV score, potentially down in the 30s-40s range.
The other observation I have, is that there does seem to be a lot of this thing around. I know now of five people, all related to my partner's relatively small work team, who have definitely tested positive for COVID-19, two - who caught it on a ski trip - have been hospitalised, the others have had it relatively mild. In once case, the husband and two kids dodged it, despite living in the same house as the wife, who'd tested positive.
I'm kind of hoping we've both had it and I continue to recover and that an anti-body test becomes widely available before too long. Sorry, that all feels a bit self-indulgent, but if it helps anyone else, great and I'm reassured by my recorded data that I'm not imagining stuff. The one thing I'd take away form my experience is that if you feel bad, even a little, don't go out on your bike, just back off and rest up. I suspect if I'd done that, I wouldn't have ended up quite so tired and rubbish.
Stay safe!
ps: the other thing I had, which I'd forgotten about until TiRed mentioned it on the main discussion thread, was tingling fingers early on when I was also getting odd blurred peripheral vision.
Also stuff has been very up and down. You feel fine for a morning, then spend the afternoon coughing and feeling dreadful. And repeat. For context, I've had much worse with flu a couple of times in the past, but the fear of ending up really unwell isn't great.
I’ve spoken to a number of people now who’ve had first-hand professional experience of people with c19. It seems most of my symptoms line up except for the obvious lack of cough/high temp. But the most telling was from a friend who is a critical care nurse. She said that they are getting a lot of people coming in that are coping ok with the symptoms until day 8-10 and which point the ‘drop off a cliff’. This was certainly my experience.
Exactly my experience. Fell off that cliff last night. After triage by 111 COVID team, who were excellent on the phone, rule out heart attack, rule out shock, monitor, COVID team came to the house first thing this morning to check SATS. I am OK, but have serious lack of breath, but NO cough and no temperature.
I believe that people who fail to mount that temperature response and have a dry cough ARE the ones who have a good chance of progessing (dry cough is high in the airway, so the virus has not gone deep, where O2 is exchanged).
I've had flu a few times (incl H1N1). This is so different. No real pain (light muscle cramp in calfs), a little weakness of the arms. But ALL the signs of dyspnoea - tingling fingers, blurring vision, higher pulse. Oxygen sats were 94 resting until I started breathing hard. Probably lower last night. And when you race bikes, you know what your pulse should be lying on the bed (Hint not 75bpm!!!)
Hope you are recovering.
Both my parents have it. My mum is now thankfully over the worst but has been very very unwell for 2 weeks. My dad, who is still in hospital is not expected to recover. He has parkinsons and has been in hospital for 16 days. He has stopped eating and drinking and now is unable to communicate. Yesterday we were contacted about the issue of resuscitation and that they didn't believe it would be a worthwhile undertaking essentially. He is slowly shutting down.
We are all heartbroken, despite his parkinsons he was generally well and at 69 years old he had some good quality life ahead of him. The virus just hit him incredibly hard and he's been unable to recover.
It's been a pretty devastating virus within our family.
So sad to hear that about your dad. You must be going through a lot right now.
Yes, made worse by being unable to see him in hospital or do much to help my mum as we don't live close, trying to keep a business going, look after/school a 5 year old at home. It's definitely taken its toll, but then I am far from being alone in this sort of situation.
They’d probably keep you away even if you lived closer. Look after those you can.
