it started about 4 days ago and I cannot sort the issues out.

basically I cannot use chrome any more or Skype and update some of my antivirus software (avast/avira). it keeps saying I am not connected to the internet 😡

have factory reset my laptop at least 4-5 times now and to begin with everything seems fine,but then this issue returns (see above).

ah but how am I online now you may ask? well internet explorer is working fine (so much for my internet connection not working eh 😉

please can anyone shed any light as to what's going on (before I chuck the laptop out of the window (only partly joking). am fed up with pc issues happening tbh (am considering getting a tablet to surf the web instead and selling this).

thanks.

Is it Windows 8? I had to go back to Firefox a couple of weeks ago when Chrome just started to hang up on the internet all the time.

Give this a bash - http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/124380-resetting-winsock-protocol.html

Windows 8.1 drove me nuts before I found out that it can often be cured by typing in "netsh winsock reset"

<thousand-yard stare>

You see those 18 little characters ?

They are hard-won knowledge. I cursed the wifi adapter in my laptop and the generations to come from those who designed and built it. I re-imaged it, completely re-installed it, removed and re-installed different versions of drivers. All to no avail. I had problems for months and months.

</thousand-yard stare>

Then typed in "netsh winsock reset" and all was well in the world once more.

🙂
