So, inspired by the poll on the front page, and the fact that there seem to be many more hats worn these days, what hat(s) do you favour then?

Me, I've a nice Barmah Squasy for sunny days

I've got one of these,

... only in black. I don't get to wear it much though.

I've got a trilby (proper, not cheap top-man hipster variant) for wearing in winter.

I have yet to find a hat that is compatible with my head/face shape.

Mrs North, OTOH, has an ideal hat head/face (being a good looking lass). She has a variety of woolly, flat and baker boy hats, as well as a Vietnamese "coolie" hat (from Vietnam) and a lovely tan leather cowboy hat bought in a Western store in California.

Trilby
Bowler, very rarely used
Silk top for high days and holidays
Four or so flat caps

Countless baseball caps (All free, only worn as post-ride helmet hair preventers)

Akubra Cattleman, large collection of beanies and a roadie-style Ripcurl baseball cap ... Incidentally if anyone happened to pick my green "Kangaroo Poo" beanie hat up off a plane back from Innsbruck 3 years ago there's a reward for safe return... I was VERY hungover... 🙂

Being in possession of absolutely zero hair, and what my mother refers to as her inherited 'delicate English Rose' complexion, I own a huge array of hats. I generally favour a Quicksilver Bushman when possibly exposing my bonce to sunshine.

Baseball caps, in line with skinny jeans, should NEVER be worn by anyone over the age of 25. You may think you is down with da kidz, in reality THIS is what you look like:

I don't own a hat but if I did, it would be one of these beauties:

I can quite often be seen sporting a flat cap, and during winter usually have a beanie very close at hand. I have a drawer full of baseball caps, but very rarely wear them anymore.

The glasses in that picture aren't helping

A couple of flat caps and a Tilly which is excellent. I am planning on getting a winter one later in the year to keep my head warm as the tide seems to be going out on my head.

2 x fox racing baseball caps, one light blue and one cream and red, also got a few fox beanies and a Royal beanie which I won years ago. Don't really wear baseball caps much now unless I'm on a golf course [hides the face].

I asked my neighbour to get me a nice fishing style hat from his trip to Florida. I have a small head. I ask him to get me a small sized one.

What size does he get me? Large.

Doughnut. 🙄

Tilley for summer/rainy day use - review from the Tiley website

"The Tilley Hat has lent me a subtle air of insouciance and élan which has hitherto eluded me."

An ex Soviet Army rabbit skin affair that's far too warm if the temperature's above -10

Actually Cheesy, speaking of headgear, something earlier reminded me of your involvement in this nonsense:

It's a pic what was in an exhibition in the NMM in Bradford last year. I think you're in there somewhere.

Hmmm, the Maldon Mud Race. I still have the scars on my leg after it got ripped to shreds on something (or possibly someone) buried in the stinking gloop on the far side of the water. 2007 was when I did it.

I have some pics here

In the late 90s in Canada, it was a bit trendy to wear a flatcap backwards, so it looked like a beret. I never did this, but (to be honest) I always thought that it kind of looked good.

Did this trend ever happen here? And whether it did or did not, would wearing a flatcap backwards now be considered completely inappropriate by you lot?

hats seem to be safety prizes on rigs for stop cards

so as such i have various oil companies hats from all over the shop....

only keep the ones with the country im ins flag on - the others get given away to crane ops and the like.

have an NZ drovers hat - think aussie drover but wax jacket instead of leather - my favorite hat to wear pre/post ride - great what ever the weather-girlfriend hates it !

Got it earlier this year. Always wanted one but I thought I would look a bit of an idiot wearing it. Got to an age now that I've gone past caring.

Panama hat, denim cap, baseball cap, various woolly hats, floppy sun hat, Lowe Mountain Cap.

Don;t take this the wrong way Cougar but I might have guessed you'd own one of those Terry Pratchett hats.

I'm somewhat intrigued as to why...!

I met Terry Pratchett last year. He confirmed to me that he did in fact own a large number of hats rather than merely "a" hat. So, now we know.

Just the usual baseball cap and i have a straw hat somewhere. I haven`t got one but really want a tilly hat. Will have to be after pay day though as £60 is quite steep.

You just answered your own question. 😉

But seriously, that type of hat you pictured tends to be worn by a certain type of younger person - and is also exactly the sort of hat I think (am I wrong?) Terry Pratchett would wear.

Just googled Tilley hats.

Are they for Ray Mears-type bushwhacking adventures? Look like something you'd see advertised in back on Sunday Telegraph magazine supplement.

I'm not making many friends here am I?

I don't think I'm a "younger person" except perhaps relative to Sir Terry, but I take your point. (-:

Just googled Tilley hats.

I was looking at these in Go Outdoors the other day. They're very, very nice and the lifetime warranty also guarantees against stupidity.

a couple of baseball caps that I never wear

a thermal beanie that I never wear as my head gets too hot as it is

in the past I've had a fedora & a trilby but no self-respecting 80s goth would have been seen without a hat (b'aht 'at) so it was kind of expected.
[img] [/img] or [img] [/img]

Still, never wore them unless it was raining
