Camping in Hathersage this weekend (without bikes, unfortunately). Anything in particular that we should look at/do/go to etc?
Go for a walk along Stanage, visit the Grindleford station caff, which is a bit of a comedy institution and when you get proper frustrated, pop over to Hope, browse around 18 Bikes and then hire a mountain bike from the new place which just next door...
Mostly we used to just sit in the caff about Outside - brilliant outdoors shop - waiting for it to stop raining so we could go and climb on Stanage. Nice caff btw.
Like the sound of all that, a trip to 18 Bikes, "just for a look", is already in the plans!
+1 on the stanage plan. If you like spoons and traffic lights go to the David Mellor museum down the road ( he designed both and there's an exhibition and shop and stuff) and after that go to the plough for lunch.
From the plough, have a walk up the river (cross the road from the pub, wander back towards hathersage but take a left over the stile before the bridge over the river) and there's a 2 mile round walk up the riverbank, over the stepping stones across the river and then back to the village.
Go for a swim in the lido ( heated open air outdoor pool thing. Very 40s style)

Had planned on doing this, but unfortunately it closes at end of September. Pub/stroll sounds good, though.
The meals in the Little John, were anything but little the last time I visited.

The pub went a bit gastro-pub a couple of years back but last time I went in it had gone back to country pub grub. Good ale too.
Thanks for the input everyone, off in a couple of hours or so!
avoid grindleford more like a point and laugh spot that somewhere you would actually eat.
Head up stanage for a look, enjoy the sunshine - I have a favourite pub in the area but it's not everyones cup of tea....
+1 for going to David Mellor's place.
Walk up/down Padley Gorge. Play on the rocks at Mother Cap / Owler Tor.
Get the train out to Edale and walk back.
