I saw a little bit of the general knowledge rounds of Mastermind and could answer the majority of the questions.

Never really watched it that must in the past but I do remember struggling to get even a few right answers "back in the day".

Have I just acquired lots of extra useless knowledge or has it dropped it's standards?

Yes, you've probably gained quite a lot of general knowledge over the years, especially if you watch/listen to the news and quiz programs etc. 😀

Bit of both I think; I regularly outscore the contestants in general knowledge rounds.

Yes but university challenge still provides a humbling experience

Was it Celebrity Mastermind? Now, that is distressingly easy...even the specialist subject questions!

I think when they stopped having Michel Junior and let the fat grocer take over it stopped being as good.

There's a knack to the starter questions. They give a lot of obscure detail in the question which distracts but the answer is often the obvious one.

Spin, I'm intrigued. Can you elaborate?

Yes. Some of the subjects are so narrow it's hard not to know all the answers.
Only Connect is where the real brains go . Though that is spoilt by the guess the saying final round. How many really clever teams have been beaten by something I can usually guess?

What I mean is that the answer is often the most obvious thing in the category. For example, you might get a whole load of obscure detail on the life of a Hungarian composer and it will mean nothing to you but the answer is probably Franz Liszt.

Or maybe Bela Bartók...

It can get embarrassing when you repeatedly answer 'Anne Bronte' to three consecutive questions on 19th Century female writers and get them all wrong.

heats are easier than QFinals etc for pretty much all quiz shows

try Only Connect if you think mastermind is simple !

I'm much better at Only Connect than the other two.
