Has anyone tried a Moleskine Smart Writing thingy?

I love drawing and handwriting things, so the idea of easy digitising is really tempting…. Anyone had any experiences?

Had a couple of similar pens a few years ago, including one from the maker of the original Moleskine device (not sure if they still use the same tech?). Love the idea of them but the practicalities never quite measured up.

EDIT. Looking at the Moleskine site, it looks like the same tech. Works well, but I never really found a productive way of using it beyond novelty value.

There's pen tablets available much cheaper if you want to try it out first. Not sure how they compare for note taking though.

I’ve got an ipad with a pen already. It’s the paper based thing that appeals as I love drawing on paper, it always looks better than the things I draw on the ipad (I thinking, maybe weirdly, the ‘you only get one go’ of drawing on paper is somehow better than the infinitely mutable digital line) but at the moment quite a bit of my work needs to be used digitally.

Bit of a halfway house, but the Repaper thing looks interesting if you want more drawing than note taking. IIRC Wacom do (or did) something similar too.
