I'm having a slow work day.....and thought I might have a go at scamming someone on the classifieds.
Really as just an experiment/pay day loan (but without the interest charges). Thought it might be interesting to see how easy it is to do; obviously I'd give them their money back in a few weeks (unless they forgot about it, in which case I'd donate it to the forum).
Was thinking a reasonably high priced item; something like a nice set of wheels/forks/iPhone? About a couple of hundred quids worth.
I think it'd be a good learning experience for all involved.
I'd be inclined to go with something a little more niche personally.
Ti mary bars or a high end fatty wheelset? How about some studded winter tyres?

Yeh, maybe. In my head though, those that're into that sort of stuff tend to be a bit more "savvy".
I think there's probably better potential with something Enduro/Downhill focused; carbon rimmed wheels maybe?
Paypal gift ok?

It's got to be either that, or bank transfer. Otherwise I don't think it'd work.
Also, if anyone has some bed whetting pics of a high priced item I could borrow, that'd be useful.
Although nicking some off pinkbike might be more interesting.
Cash on collection OK? Where abouts are you?

😀 I'm not brave enough to try and scam someone face to face. Although it would be quite funny getting handed a wad of cash and then just sprinting off into the distance really fast.
The trick is to actually have the item being sold, just not in the condition described.
Like a set of knackered brakes you could describe as 'perfect' despite huge gouges and a complete breakdown of all the rubber in the seals.
You then can then spend months arguing with all and sundry on the main forum whilst steadfastly refusing to give a refund.
Come on - Surely it needs to be an iPhone at a surprisingly low price?
You need groundwork. I'd be getting a new ID and starting posting some stuff in the chat and bike forums now to generate some trust, and maybe buying something cheap from someone else... 😉

Film it, that'd be worthy of Trigger Happy TV 🙂

I think I'd prefer to use this ID; afterall, it already has the groundwork, and my username sort of gives away who I am. I'd have plenty of aggro Facebook messages to look forward to I imagine.

You could meet someone to sell them a nearly new laptop - and do the old "switch the box and give them the one with a brick in it" trick...
What tyres for a fast get away... ? 🙂
Once you've sorted the model, can I be your first franchise please?

That would never work.....
I would never scam anyone.
To be fair I've sold bits at a loss to help others and clear out good things I don't need.
Treat others how you wish to be treated.

I dont think the OP is being serious, just filling in a slow at work.
Scam me, expect baseball bat?
You seem unsure. Should the OP expect a baseball bat or not?
Go for it Davy boy.
How about ..
Carbon shoes in black. Size 46. A fair few marks to the soles, even more marks on the uppers, they have been thrashed afterall. But they're quality, so they will last forever/a long time/after I am gone ?.Almost comfy, functionally sound. £5 posted

If all you're after is an interest free payday loan (cunning idea for those with cashflow problems), then I should think normal paypal would also be fine. If you're careful and avoid doing anything which might lead to somebody starting a thread about you, I imagine you could keep it up for quite a while.

Altogether different thread right there.
Everybody does it 🙂
I went into Clarks shoe shop.
They tried to scam me by selling marked shoes.
Luckily I saw it again on 5 other pairs they tried to sell me. Some even damaged.
Scammers! 😆
