I bought a pack of 2 hss 1.5mm drill bits the other day, came do use them and they aren't where I put them. I have 4 kids I can blame, take your pick, but they are all in school so can't ask them at the moment. Any ideas?

I have a 4 year old who's a builder, I literally can't put anything down without him nicking it and putting it in his own toolbox.

There's a plus side to this, he's much better at putting tools away than I am

Check in your jacket pocket. The one hanging behind the door.

Have you checked in the drill case, its far too easy to just chuck em in there when youre done than but them in their own box.

The only way to guarantee then turning up is to head out and buy replacements. They will then immediately turn up.

Under the fridge/washing machine/nearest heavy appliance to wherever you used them last.

Or with my right mid weight glove.

*Of course* they’re in the last place you look!

You keep looking til you find them. Then you stop looking. Anyone who keeps looking after they’ve found the thing they were looking for hasn’t understood looking!

I’ll bet they’re with my tape measures. Always seem to need to buy a new tape for every job. No idea where they get to.

Based on extensive research, just go and buy a new pack/set. When you get back put them somewhere safe/sensible. Thats where the originals will be.

If you find them without buying more, then you will snap the ends off on first use.

As above, buy more (and then they also won't break).

Not something you want to see. Unless you like hairy mens breasticles.

Gave up looking for now. I will probably buy some more and then find them, as is always the case. But I have checked loads of obscure places as well as obvious ones, just in case.

Probably in the washing machine. That's where mine was last time. Got in some trouble for that...

Talking of tape measures, I own four and it took me 30 minutes and a complete house search to find one on Sunday so I could measure some skirting board. I swear, it gets more difficult every time I look for one.

+1 on the washing machine by the way.

They will be in the "man drawer". Also known in our house as the "really useful drawer".

Walk round the house with a large magnet, sooner or later you will strike lucky.

You've hidden them so you don't have to use them silly.

Intrigue.

Who or what broke your curtain poles?

EDIT: I mean, it’s not like they wear out?

Kids twirling themselves in the (floor length) curtains and playing hide and seek hiding in them. They pulled the curtain poles and the mounting board from the wall in the front room and one bedroom. Only happened around Xmas time, but they're done now.

Yeah, I get that. Since I’ve managed to dissuade Bodgy Jnr. from dangling, the dog has taken to rolling on the curtains and bending stuff whilst covering it in hair simultaneously.

Good luck with the drill bits. (I only buy them individually, these days.)

5plus - the house has parquet flooring on the downstairs and floorboards upstairs. A nightmare for being scraped and scratched but great for sliding around on. Only problem is the house is rented so any damage is an issue.

floorboards upstairs.

I thought so, the drill bits slipped between a gap in the boards. Probably when you abandoned your trousers on the way to the shower, your Mrs picked them up to add to the wash pile and the drill bits fell out and slipped between the gap in the boards, along with that dog eared photo of you on your BMX from 1983.

They'll be in the first place you looked, but you didn't look thoroughly enough.

Are they still in the carrier bag? Or dropped down the back of the sideboard?

No worries, I know no harm was meant. I read it as it was intended, please don't worry. That response was only a 'I wish that could be the case' type of thing. That's probably the sort of thing she would have done too, hidden them from me for a laugh.
