As the title really. I'm looking for guidance and advice regarding making a bespoke phone case. I have a less than popular model so whilst cases are available they don't quite match what I'm after.
Phone is an Xperia5iv. I want a protective case that has an open front with raised edges to help shield the gorilla glass covered screen. In a very bright colour, preferably dayglo orange, yellow or red. This is so I can spot the phone when I inevitably drop it somewhere silly.
I reckon that casting something out of bathroom sealant might be the way to go but how do I colour it? How do I even make a mould?
Thanks in advance, Ambrose
Rather than have it brightly coloured in case you drop it, have a case with a lanyard fitting so you can have a lanyard to avoid dropping it somewhere. I’ve done this for a few years now, and never dropped a phone on the floor when I’m out anywhere.
Trying to fabricate a case that will allow you to use all the controls, charge it, etc, is really not going to be easy, the only way to do it properly is 3D Printing, but there’s a whole bunch of different things to go wrong there, multiple prototypes to get the fit right, for example.
Here’s my phone, in an Otterbox Defender, the lanyard I made up is Dyneema from a marine supplier, it’s used for dinghies and it has a 450 lb breaking strain - same stuff my bowstrings are made from, and paraglider rigging. The loops on the end I stitched with Kevlar thread and put heatshrink tubing over the joints.

Ive modified a fair few preexisting cases when I first got into Android and tended to buy niche models that might not even have a case available at launch..
I suspect fabricating one from new would be a pain.
TPU cases are the ones to get imo. It's very flexible and a lot of them are clear plastic.
Jusr buy a clear one and stick flouro tape on the *inside* of it. That way the case protects the tape from becoming tatty. TPU is easy to cut with a hobby knife too.
I think all the TPU cases I've ever bought have raised edges around the screen as it's needed to slightly go over the edge of the front of the mobile so the case can clip on securely.
Something like this though as a starting suggestion, I bet eBay do it miles cheaper.

^^ Nice find, could be just what the op wants.
