Looking for some advice to try and help my girlfriend. She is a good level rider and surfer.
One day she will ride some proper steep nadgery off piste trail. Within the same day panic at a mixh easier section.
Another day struggle with a tricky obstacle at a trail centre that is either well within her ability or even ridden the same thing before.
She has no belief in her ability, even when she rides properly difficult stuff she will dwell on anything she hasn't done.
I wondered about a sports psych? Its definately a mental problem rather than skill level or equipment.
She has exactly the same issues with surf...
Just wondered if anyone has tried a psychological approach to improve? Or indeed any sports psychologists out there? (we both have sports degrees, PE teachers so know the principles but tricky to do yourself/ I dont want to be her psychologist!)
Thanks

Not used one personally. But I can't recommend enough a book called 'The Chimp Paradox' by Dr. Steve Peters.

No but i have been lucky enough to have spent a lot of time with some world class enduro (motorcycle) riders.

Lots of conversations around "how the **** do you go that fast" over ground they have often not seen before.

Answers ranged from "dont know" to "always looking for the landing ground" and more or less ignoring whats underneath or just in front of you.

Its often the immediate thing that rattles people.. the above is easy to write but actually difficult to do, road motorcycle riders often say that newbies get target fixation and hit things (by trying to stop rather than avoid) Physics is a **** at times.

If you think this is bollocks place a 4x2 timber flat on the ground and walk along it, then think about that timber 10m in the air between two fixed points.
