Flights booked to Seattle for 1st 2 weeks of July. Lonely Planet book purchased and research started.
The wife and I always like to mix our holidays up with a bit of city and a bit of outdoors - last couple of years we've done Alberta/BC, Yosemite. Always love to do a few good day hikes to get a good feel for being in a place.
This year we've been thinking about doing a bit more than usual, some sort of loop hike with 3/4 nights camping.
Anyone done something similar in these areas. In particular North Cascades - care to share?
Cheers
I've been to Mount Hood snowboarding in the winter.
My Brother lived in Portland until a month ago, I'm reliably informed that summer in Hood River (the town) and Bend Oregon (the town) are really lovely with lots of summer sports to do

I did enjoy a daytrip out to the coast from Portland for a long walk along the beach - really powerful imagery that you just don't get in Bournemouth and you can go through http://tillamookforestcenter.org/
A fabulous area
Rented an RV in Tacoma and toured southern Washington and Oregon for a week. We only did day hikes (and day mountain bikes) but there are about 43,495,123 hikes in that part of the country. Parts of the Pacific Crest Trail could be turned into a loop. And there are circumnavigations of all the big volcanoes--Rainier, Hood, Adams, Baker, St. Helens, ect
A hike up Mt St Helens is well worth the effort. You’ll need a permit from the ranger station in Cougar. Drive up to the bivouac campground just below the tree line. Camp and be up at dawn to catch the sunrise. It’s a scramble over the boulder fields, lava and pumice to the crater rim. Pack lots of water. The views to Mt Rainier, Adams, Hood and Jefferson are spectacular
If you had time, Crater Lake is worth the extra drive south for. Smith Rock bear Bend is a hikers favourite
I’ve also enjoyed the San Juan islands. We camped in the State Park on Shaw island and took ferry trips to the others and cycled around. Whale watching and kayaking are popular there too.
State parks are cheap to camp in as a hiker biker $5-7 a night
I cycled down the Olympic and Pacific coastline of Washington and Oregon. There are some great state parks. The Ho Rainforest would be worth a look. I liked Manzanita on the Oregon coast mostly for the beach and burritos
