I don't mind admitting to drinking a Piña Colada at Trader Vic's and eating beef chow mein at Lee Ho ****'s.

My hair was, of course, perfect.

(It was a part of a rather excellent boozy night out!)

So, any actions or events influenced by a book/film/song/work of art?

I played some 45's backwards, I probably shouldn't talk about what happened in public....

"Poisoning Pigeons in the Park" inspired me to say something nasty to a friend.

Bit of humble bragging there Flashy......

To answer your question - yes; laugh, smile, cry, think, provide long-lasting memories.

For the children of the 70s

The theme to Why Don't You ?

Went something like "Why don't you turn off your TV set and go do something less boring instead."

After watching one episode I realised this advice was literal and to be followed immediately - i.e. before the main content of the programme started and I followed it with religious fervour.

PS apologies if you worked, starred or appeared on this show (knowing this place there'll be someone who did)

I insisted we stayed in Monterey when we were holidaying in California on the basis of the Steinbeck books.

We had a fantastic meal on Cannery Row - but I think it has changed a bit since his day.

A Short Walk In The Hindu Kush made me want to climb mountains in Afghanistan. I never managed that, but I did get to see a bit of the desert there and Kabul. Maybe one day I'll get the chance to go back.

Back in the 80`s when we were 14/15 me and a mate bought nun chucks (sp) and bokkens after watching kickboxer a few too many times.

I stayed at the Hotel California in Acapulco. I was waiting for something to arrive via the super efficient Mexican postal system, I couldn't leave.

Also, just watched Ride the Divide again, very tempted...

I quit the political party I was working for as a result of reading a very moving novel.

Went to Petra after watching Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Reading that back it seems an incredibly shallow reason, but it was worth it.

Not any of the above, but the reason I've been messing about on Mountain bikes for the last 30 (ahem) years was a copy of a mountain bike mag (can't even remember which one it was, maybe Mountain Bike Action?) that a friend had been given free and was on the back seat of his car. I was always sort of into bikes, but had started messing about with cars and such, and I thumbed through that mag like it was a porno, bought a Carrera from Halfords, a couple of weeks later, and never looked back...

This book has informed many of the decisions I've made since reading it 30 something years ago.

Jack Kerouac influenced me to pack a bag and go on my own road for about 10 years which  influenced the way I look at the world in general.

Also thinking about it after seeing a random Doug Scott lecture I put hard partying days behind me and have gone on to climb in lots of countries at a rather mediocre level.

Started reading lots of historical accounts of war by historians, veterans, those caught in the crossfire of war etc after reading Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks and realising that, despite being born just 22 years after World War II ended, I didn't really know very much about what happened other than thinking we were the goodies and we beat the baddies.

Well that's inspired me never to never watch or listen to anything described by verses as "excellent" ever again.

Jack Kerouac influenced me to pack a bag and go on my own road for about 10 years which  influenced the way I look at the world in general.

Funny that, cos the only thing On The Road inspired me to do was not read anything else by Jack Karouac.

I’ve hung about on the corner of 52nd and Broadway

A friend and I got very drunk whilst listening to ....And Out Come The Wolves and ended up breaking all his patio furniture whilst pogoing around his garden. Still love that album to this day.

A bit daft, but listening to RATM in my teens convinced me to start playing the bass, do some charity work and question authority.

Watching Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Shaw Brothers films made me take up martial arts and think I was a stuntman.

Blizzard of Ahhs inspired me to ski off a big cliff in Serre Che. It was fun, I had a sore neck for a week.

My Name is Earl inspired me to grow a moustache, wear plaid, get drunk and hang out with hookers.
