What (allegedly) happened to Harry Maguire and his family, friends etc. was appalling but why is nobody looking at what happened to his sister?
Two (allegedly) Albanians (allegedly) injected her with something that caused her to collapse pretty instantly. I don't think of myself as being paranoid or sensationalist but my first thought was a kidnap attempt. I wonder why nobody is talking about this? Seems odd.
Well it's changed multiple times from:
Stabbed
Poked with Stick
Injected with date rape drug
Poked with metal straw when advances were declined.
So hard to know what's gone on here.
I'd hold fire until the actual story comes out in the wash, not the speculative one.
Sounds like absolute BS to me
Also
What (allegedly) happened to Harry Maguire and his family, friends etc. was appalling
Um.... he was the one who committed the crime, not the other way round.
No one is talking about this because it's obviously a load of bollox made up to cover up him acting like a drunken idiot.
I wonder what the media would be saying if this had all happened to a young black footballer btw. Can't help feeling the coverage would be somewhat less sympathetic.
this. Can’t believe they gave the **** so much time on BBC news this morning! No one is talking about this because it’s obviously a load of bollox made up to cover up him acting like a drunken idiot.
Sister “recovered pretty quickly” apparently - because she was just pissed, like him & everyone else he was with. Drunken brits abroad again, just embarrassing. No wonder the locals are sick of it.
He was probably advised to drop those comments because it's a) unprovable and b) xenophobic and possibly c) totally made-up.
But it's OK, he's been tearful on the beeb and 'feared for his life' because of those beastly foreign police officers (they're not as upstanding as our bobbies, of course).
I wonder what the media would be saying if this had all happened to a young black footballer btw.
dunno though the daily fail has been very critical of mr Harry Maguire, had reporters retracing his steps and found no evidence of Albanians and pretty much confirmed the police version of events.
uselesshippy - do tell, you were obviously there and witnessed the whole thing?
Maybe Klunk but there still seems to have been a surprising level of time/respect given to his frankly pretty far-fetched tales and the fact that he hasn't expressed even the tiniest bit of contrition for getting himself into this mess.
Tanning £5k bottles of vodka at whatever time of the morning then assaulting police isn't really ideal behaviour for anyone let alone a professional sportsman and club captain.
Big time footballer in drunk/drugged to the eyeballs shocker, found guilty of something he shouldn't have done, hence I didn't bother reading beyond the headline.
If it looks like shit, and smells like shit, it's shit....
If you believe that, hi, I'm a Nigerian prince, and just need help getting some money out of my country.....

This. He'll quietly (very quietly) row back from this a little bit at a time, and all the while public interest will wane until it leaves a general impression that he was wronged. Classic media/attention span manipulation (the attention span of your average Brit now being measured in seconds).
It is standard practice. >95% will just vaguely believe he was stitched up by nasty foreign coppers. The remainder will be referred to the minutely hidden retraction and the >95% won't change their mind even if it is pointed out because they can't be arsed.
More worrying is the fact that this also seems to be a common MO for governments, ministers etc nowadays.
because of those beastly foreign police officers (they’re not as upstanding as our bobbies, of course).
What was worse, not only did they not put up with him trying to assault them, they even charged him when he tried to offer them money to let him and his battered mates go! Ridiculous!
Can’t believe they gave the **** so much time on BBC news this morning!
Top billing on the BBC News@10 last night. FFS. With all that's going off in the world / this country.

Good distraction, innit?
I'm with Nobeer here, whichever side of the story you want to speculate on, don't judge until you are sure of the details. Hopefully a proper trial will right any wrongs which have or haven't been done.
Not every Brit abroad is a drunken cockwomble, and not every policeman is a fine upstanding keeper of the peace (FWIW some years ago a group of good friends of mine were driven into the middle of nowhere by the local fuzz on holiday (some Spanish island) and had a properly bad experience, I'm sure that they were drunk and probably not on their best behaviour, but they were certainly not a bunch of hooligans spoiling for a fight).
I wonder what Raheem Sterling makes of this story and the way it has been covered.
Who is Harry Maguire?

You must admit, though, his story is a bit 'Barnard Castle-y'.
He's had a proper trial and been found guilty.
Is there a different "proper trial" you're waiting on?
And I blame Cummings for this idea that you can now just front it out and refuse to apologise and you'll get away with it.
Albanian you say? I'm pretty sure I was there and I heard them speaking....Asian!
And I blame Cummings for this idea that you can now just front it out and refuse to apologise and you’ll get away with it.
Yup, and it will spread. I'll be using it the next time some gammon rambler has a pop at me for riding on a footpath.
"You shouldn't be riding here".
"Oh, I was just testing my eyesight before riding on the road, you see. Any responsible cyclist would do the same".
If our politicians don't take any responsibility for their actions, why would our D list celebrities?
FWIW some years ago a group of good friends of mine were driven into the middle of nowhere by the local fuzz on holiday (some Spanish island) and had a properly bad experience
Was that on Ibiza by any chance? Some years ago in the very early 00's, a friend of mine from school was doing a season out there. He was quite into his pills and house music and was doing a bit of dealing alongside the holiday rep job. One night he got busted by two Guardia Civil officers (the branch of Spanish lawkeeping you least want to be busted by) who took his stash and all his cash / bank cards, drove him into the countryside and dumped him in the middle of nowhere. Partly served him right and could have been a lot worse with deportation / criminal record a possibility, but still...
Towards the end of this video he touches his nose in a weird way that looks a bit like he just realised he was being filmed and got paranoid there was still some white stuff around his nostril.

Idle speculation obvs for any lawyers reading 😛
dannyh you haven't quite got the hang of it.
“You shouldn’t be riding here”.
“I wasn't you are mistaken, it's your fault for watching, look a foreigner in a dinghy”.
Was that on Ibiza by any chance?
No, was Majorca I think. They were not a pill popping bunch, more a bunch of pretty good natured home counties boys in their late teens / early 20s. Certainly not a group of try hards, would have been pasted if any fight had broken out. Very similar incident though IIRC.
Edit: Ignore
Who is Harry Maguire?
Jerry's brother.
He’s had a proper trial and been found guilty.
Sounds a bit 'kangaroo court' to me, all it needs is the police to confirm their story, no time to get a proper defence organised etc.
You must admit, though, his story is a bit ‘Barnard Castle-y’.
I'm expecting a new Brewdog beer. 'Albanian Rohypnol Injection'
Disclaimer - I'm not being a Harry Maguire apologist here, just it's all pretty one sided 'bad footballer' whilst no one has a full grasp of the facts.
Jerry’s brother.
Well he did try to show them the money.
Who is Harry Maguire?
Jerry’s brother.
Is that why he was trying to show them the money?

I was about to say "that won't work because I live in the midlands about as far from the sea as it is possible to be in the UK".
But it actually works better as it is closer to Dominic Cumstains in terms of bare faced lying and blatant todger-tugging.
Who is Harry Maguire?
I don't own a television.
Aside from politicians being corrupt and scandals being forgotten too quickly by 24hr news cycles and Twitter (Panama Papers - anyone remember that?), one of the things that irks me about modern life is people bragging about their ignorance of a certain subject. Ignorance is a deficit and people shouldn't advertise it.
Not knowing (or worse, pretending not to know) who England International and captain of Man Utd Harry Maguire is is not something anyone should be proud of - even if for some reason you want to tell everyone you don't like football.
/rant.

I believe the correct term is"wendyball".
You would think if he was spending money at that stupid rate the bar owners would have had security looking out for him and his party.
I must be naive - I did not realise it was possible to spend so much on booze - allegedly £63,000 in five hours!
Indeed, you'd think they'd be putting up a statue of Slabhead instead of nicking him!
To be honest until this story I wouldn't have had a clue who Harry is either. I don't feel my life has been enriched by finding out.
Not knowing (or worse, pretending not to know) who England International and captain of Man Utd Harry Maguire is is not something anyone should be proud of – even if for some reason you want to tell everyone you don’t like football.
I am not sure why I should know who an England football player is.
If this was a forum dedicated to football, I could probably sympathise, but it is a cycling website.
If I was to post about Rask leaving the bubble in the middle of the 1st round, I wouldn't get upset if someone didn't know who he is (FYI, he doesn't ride bikes)
(Also, rumours are he may be leaving permanently, big blow I'd say, especially after moving Dobby on, but I do like Halek. Lets see who Seattle poach)
Pointless comment of the day.

You might be surprised that not everyone has an interest in footie.
I think he should stop heading the ball as it's clearly playing havoc with his brain. What is it with Man U hiring thick as F captains.
Those two Albanians should market the needle they used to the Diabetic industry,it being so painless and all.Perhaps it was a copy of the device "Bones" used to good effect on Star Trek.Helping his patients i mean, not surreptitiously jabbing them before smashing their back doors in.
You might be surprised that not everyone has an interest in footie.
Indeed. Although I had heard of Manchester United, I had never heard of Harry Maguire until this rather unsavoury episode. I went to watch Luton play Watford in about 1967, and I haven't been to a football match since. There are some things that people really should take some interest in - politics, science, the arts, for instance - but football is not one of them. Nor is any other sport, come to that.
Never new Ben Stiller had a twin brother. Shocking business.
There are some things that people really should take some interest in – politics, science, the arts, for instance – but football is not one of them.
That is a silly comment. Why should people take interest in any one thing over another? People take interests in the things that, err, interest them. But, that aside, having a broad knowledge of what is going on in the world around them (outside of what interests them) is surely a healthy skill to have?

I didn't know who he was either, but rather than typing "who is harry maguire" on a cycling forum, and waiting a while for an answer.
I just typed "harry maguire" into google and got an instant and very thorough answer.
Far easier, and much less likely to make you look like one of those types who enjoy telling people they don't know anything about stuff that's really popular with "other people"
What’s this google you speak of?
You might be surprised that not everyone has an interest in footie.
You may be surprised to hear that I don’t particularly like football either. You might also be surprised to learn that you’ve missed my point entirely!
I don’t care if people do or do not like football, or if they do or don’t know who Harry Maguire is. My point is that proudly broadcasting your ignorance of a subject is stupid.
I realise the subtext of the initial comment was something like “I don’t like football, and you lot are stupid for engaging in conversation about it.” Which is bad enough in itself, but to say it with faux ignorance really grinds my goat.
First line of this report sums it up for me...
I believe the correct term is”wendyball”.
Cheese rolling or are you new here?
There are some things that people really should take some interest in – politics, science, the arts, for instance – but football is not one of them.
Of all the sanctimonious comments I've read on here over the years, this is the biscuit-taker. Well done. Get yourself a lolly out of the jar...

Thank you, you've made me so proud of my achievement.
I'm not saying that people shouldn't like football, just that it's not particularly valuable, except as a distraction. About on a level with Tetris or Solitaire, I guess.
In superior court in retrial will he wear long trousers?
Unless you followed football why would you have any clue who Harry Maguire was. I watch a fair few matches and I hadn't heard of half England's latest squad, why would I have? I had heard of Harry mcquire but I'm pretty sure 50% of my mates wouldn't have a clue who he was.
As for his explanation of what happened...seems pretty unlikely to me.
About on a level with Tetris or Solitaire, I guess.
Have a word with yourself. Do you seriously believe this is true? You either have not traveled much or have no idea of the cultural impact football has. World wide.
Not knowing (or worse, pretending not to know) who England International and captain of Man Utd Harry Maguire is is not something anyone should be proud of – even if for some reason you want to tell everyone you don’t like football.
Thanks for the snide put-down. Coming, as it does, from someone with the username‘Superficial’, I shall treat that comment with the respect it deserves. The same way I treat football and the grossly overpaid primadonnas who disgrace a game of such little consequence.

I absolutely agree, I’m fascinated by a huge range of subjects, including some sports - but excluding football; once upon a very long time ago it was a game played by working-class blokes who everyone could relate to. Now it’s played by prancing idiots payed vastly more than any reasonable person could ever consider reasonable, who show more clearly than anything else that money can never buy good taste, but can buy an obscene disregard for the fans who’ve forked out equally obscene amounts of money to keep these pathetic spoilt brats in the manner to which they’ve become very much accustomed to.
Poncing around in a ludicrously expensive sports car with a tasteless paint job is bad enough, but owning and bragging about half a dozen or more, and their equally tasteless choice of wris****ches is the ultimate insult to those who pay to watch the game and buy the overpriced merchandise, which changes every season in a cynical exercise in fleecing the gullible.
Not a fan then.
I've been stabbed, and in court the defence tried to make out it was my fault. Plenty of aggressive questioning.
the legal system treats people in a really sterile way.
Who is Harry Maguire?
That is what I asked when first hearing the story. I soon found out who is was by seeing him on the news in an interview and I now know he is just a person who is very, very bad at lying.
This thread reads like everyone is feeling a little sensitive and fractious. All good things eh?
Poncing around in a ludicrously expensive sports car with a tasteless paint job
Vinyl wraps, paint is soooo last decade, do keep up 😉
It really does seem to be all about bread and circuses, just like the end of the Roman Empire.
Some funny comments above.
My ten pence, these are the points that don't make sense to me.
1) where is the puncture wound and toxicology report for the sister? If she was injected with something?
2) it all kicked off but then they got on the mini bus and drive to the hotel for 5 minutes before being stopped by police. Why didn't they head to the hospital? Why did the police let them drive away? Why did the police stop the mini bus?
3) if he thought his sister had been drugged and his Mrs was in the mini bus and he thought he was being kidnapped, why did he try to run away and leave them to the "Albanians"
4) the police attacked his legs saying "you will never play football again" but the charges relate to him saying "do you know who I am"
I suspect they were spending ridiculas amounts of money and bringing too much attention to themselves. Texts went round "Harry Maguire is at so so" people arrived, too much was drunk. People got too friendly, it kicked off, police were called, he didn't think he'd done anything wrong and refused to cooperate abd everyone got on the bus and drove off. Police who had been patient got pissed off, stopped the bus, went in heavy handed, he tried to run off to avoid media problems, police caught him, they might have said things when they arrested him, probably whacked him a few times because he tried to resist arrest. He then shit himself because if the media and got out a wod of cash and tried to make it all go away.
I blame man utd. If your going to pay a young man £100000 a week plus bonus, plus the rest, then make sure you send a fixer with him. It should have been in his contract when he signed to prevent their asset getting damaged or creating reputation damage to man utd.
I'm not the first to think that his explanation sounds like he'd watched Taken the night before?

So you are not fascinated about the game but you clearly display lots of knowledge about those that participate. Time to come out of the closet?
Might be slightly controversial but I think Maguire's version might be nearer the truth as we had a similar experience 15 years ago in Corfu.
My experience was in Crete, a very long time ago (circa 1984)
In a local bar with another young couple we met. 2 blokes come in, drag 2 girls outside and start slapping them and generally roughing them up. Me and the other guy step in (no punches thrown just get in between and to be fair the guys weren't full on "beating" them)
The 2 girls ran off (it was a hotel bar and we learned later that it was about bribes not being paid) and the 2 blokes focused on us, within seconds they claimed to be plain clothed police. A minute later a police car appears and we are all taken to the police station. I get a few punches in the back of the car for fun and we spent the night in the station. Next day in court the whole thing is a shambles. In summary "pay us money and say sorry" (for assaulting police) and you can go otherwise a week in clink.
Paid what we had left of our holiday money and released. As we left the 2 police involved followed us and asked us for more money. Fortunately our "lawyer" managed to intervene. We spent the next week worried we were going to be targeted by the 2 thugs (sorry plain clothed police)
Its possible things havent changed much in the last 35 yrs

If you really think that about Footballers then I think you're showing yourself to be even more ignorant about the game.
Get down to your local lower league team, you will find working class blokes who are fully in touch with reality and not earning a working wage alongside playing football.
Its possible things havent changed much in the last 35 yrs
It's also possible people have stories like that about uk police from 35 years ago, and things have changed.
You have to remember though places like Mykonos are full of ****ty English people behaving appallingly in what remains a fairly socially conservative place in many ways. Not saying that would justify police violence or harassment but it's understandable if they are less than sympathetic to the plight of lairy British footballers.

Looks like you are.
If you selectively quote and ignore everything else I said you can try and make it seem like that yes 🙄

Not in our case - it was the north of the Island which has mainly couples. UK women tend to stand out with blond hair. The locals tended to quite aggressive and forward towards them.
I was only there for one night on my way to photograph a wedding on Syria. Seemed to be a big party place from what I could see, though weirdly there were more young Australians there going a bit nuts than anyone else.
British tourists have a reputation for being drunken, obnoxious, and for the women to be promiscuous. It's difficult to argue it's not deserved really but it's a shame when everyone gets tarred with the same brush. One of the few times white British people get to experience actual prejudice.
