Never been before and staying at a campsite in Knaresborough. I know with 2 mad spaniels we will be a bit limited on the sights that we can visit but other than what should we see and do. Looking for some nice walks, sights and pubs 🙂

Winnie is giddy with anticipation....

A walk along the Nidd Gorge will be nice, or if you go into Harrogate itself, you have the whole stray to tire the dogs out on (though admittedly there’s not much to ‘do’ there.) Valley Gardens in Harrogate is nice for a walk round and an icecream too.

You could walk from Ripley along the old railway & over the viaduct. Which site in Knaresborough are you staying at?
Knaresborough itself is probably nicer to see than Harrogate actually. Middle Gorge is a gem but you’ll need to chuck the dogs in the river cos it gets clarty after rain.

Not in Harrogate itself but Brimham Rocks is nice for a walk.

I can’t say that there’s much in Harrogate worth seeing with dogs

If you have Nation Trust head up to Fountains Abbey, or do their park run on a Saturday am. Has to be one of the nicest parks runs in the uk

Maybe up to Thruscross Resevoir (nicer of the 3 Resevoirs)

Brimham Rocks as noted above

Weirdly the park and castle in Knaresborough is quite nice

We stayed on that site in May 2019. There's a walk from the site along the river into the town and then a longer walk back.

if its the site im thinking of, my brother has a house in the same village. we've had some good walks along the river (Nidd), access is just over the road from you.

as tomhoward says above, harrogate maybe a bit limited with dogs apart from the valley gardens which is a nice stroll with the pooches.

North bar in Harrogate does excellent beer and is dog friendly.

Assuming it's the site just off Ripley Road, as suggested you can get to Nidd Gorge very easily (just over the road) and then head towards Harrogate.

Follow the path along the river then climb out of the Gorge and find the pub called The Gardners Arms for a beer (has a fantastic beer garden).

Then head back towards Knaresborough along Beryl Buton cycleway - you can drop back down to the river again here and around Conyngham Hall. Waterside is nice and with a few ice cream shops dotted along. Take the steps up to the castle and the town centre.

Plenty of pubs in Knaresborough - Mother Shiptons, Half Moon, The Worlds End, etc.

Shame it’s a Sam Smiths pub really… funny story, we stopped in there after a ride, mate who had never been in before was at the bar, ‘oh I think I’ll try a (forget what)’. Grizzled ol’ bloke propping up the bar chimes in with ‘yer dun’t want that, is ‘kin shyte!’ ‘What would you recommend?’, ‘That one’s not so bad’ points at another) ‘oh ok, thanks, I’ll give that a go then’

Ol’ bloke promptly sighs, gets off his stool, goes behind the bar and serves our mate 😂

Tom's Social (not what it sounds like...) in Harrogate is good if you want to take the dogs. Cold Bath Brewery does charcuterie boards now and is also good, if expensive.

I live in Knaresborough and echo the advice on exploring the Nidd Gorge and heading out to Ripley (getting the bus back is an option).

Knaresborough pubs that I can recommend are The Half Moon (beer and a small but good food menu) and Six Poor Folk (better for food, but excellent live music and dog-friendly).

Not sure of the legality of trespassing on National Trust sites but most of Fountains Abbey is public access anyway, but the ruins are £23/person to get in, and for that price you'd think the NT would have rebuilt it by now. They've got to pay the £179,000 salary of their CEO somehow though. Hop the fence.

Don't follow your sat nav down Waterside, it'll end in tears.

This lot is also on all week if that's your thing. (I'm guessing it is from mention of beer!)
https://www.womenontap.co.uk/festival-programme

Ripon cathedral beer festival today too (£5)

Turning point is worth a wander down if their tap room is open - it's a nice enough wander along the river any how. Open from this weekend it seems.

Wouldn't have said there was much of interest actually in Harrogate, it's a nice enough town, but nothing special. Some nice bars and restaurants. And the traffic can be a PITA if you want to get through it.

You're close enough to York if you want a city day with a few more attractions. Use the train to get there.

Brimham/Nidderdale etc are close by. Brimham is NT so expect to get gouged for parking unless you are a member. The reservoirs at the head of Nidderdale are great for a walk.

Park here for free. You could buy an ice cream at the NT visitor centre but it's not like rocks need ongoing maintenance.

I've parked there in the past, but last time I was there, the main car park was nearly full by 10am, and queueing out onto the lane when we left an hour after, so free options will be taken much earlier than that.

so free options will be

Dozens of cars parked on the road where its not wide enough to pass because they refuse to pay.

It'll be fine during the week.
