going to go have a look at a petrol strimmer later thats in the local paper cheap, its a mcculloch so not expensive to begin with. apparently its hard to start but runs fine when going.
i'm presuming it will be a basic 2-stroke so a clean of the carb/jets, fresh fuel and a new plug should sort it?
anyone got any advice?
i've got one of those residing in the shed.
I've pretty much given up on it as I seem to spend more time tinkering with it to get it running than I ever do strimming.

Check the condition of the primer bulb and fuel hoses. My mum has got a ryobi which must be 25 years old now, it used to be an absolute pig to start, sometimes it would take 20+ pulls on the starter. She had it 'repaired' at the local lawnmower repair place a couple of times but it never made a huge difference.
I had a look at it in the spring and realised that the bulb and fuel hoses were perished and letting in a bit of air, as a result it was taking 30+ pumps to get fuel without air bubbles into the carb.
Fitted a new bulb and hose and it now starts on the second or third pull after half a dozen pumps.
