Massive Attack's Mezzanine released 25 years ago. Easily in my top 5 albums. Feel old yet?
This album was the soundtrack to my A-levels (actually thought it was older and coincided with GCSEs!)
Definitely, although Blue Lines turning 30 hurt more in some ways. Mezz is an amazing album; it feels timeless yet totally takes me back at the same time. Can also highly recommend the Mad Professor remix album that finally got released in 2019.
Also, Huey Morgan is doing a Mezz special on his Saturday morning 6Music show: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001l14d
Thanks for the reminder op,I really do now as I'm tuckig into bed ...I was 25..where did it go...classic album
Just listened to this tonight for the first time in ages. Hadn’t realised it was it’s 25th birthday
Haven’t listened to it in a while so it’s fitting if I have a listen to it now, bought it 25 years at the age of 25.
Yep definitely a classic top album.
One of my favourite albums of all time. 🙂
I think I didn't buy it for a couple of years until it was 10 quid at Andy's maybe ...
Anyway, 25 years, almost enough to make me shed a Teardrop.
Teardrop, kind of inspired by the death of Jeff Buckley. Sorry if that's common knowledge, I was reading about Elizabeth Fraser at the weekend and I never knew that
Then going down the rabbit hole - who else 'auditioned' to do lyrics / vocals on Teardrop only for Liz to get the job

Madonna. Mushroom wanted to work with her again after they recorded I Want You in '95, but was vetoed, leading (with other issues) to Mush leaving after the Mezz tour.
I also seem to recall reading that that whole Bristol scene was kind of a collective of friends, they helped out with Nina Cherry and "buffalo stance" and she in turn took a chunk of the profits from that and reinvested back into other group projects that led to the Bristol trip-hop explosion.
I loved that whole sound that was produced from there.
I always thought Mezzanine dropped off after the first few tracks. Still loved it though. Saw them at the MEN Arena on that tour. Brilliant.

Yeah it was centred around a geographically tiny area too. I remember reading how a teenage DJ Die used to wait until Smith and Mighty were out gigging, then he'd break into their studio, quickly write a tune, then leg it before they came back 😆
Listening to a Mezzanine remix version album as we speak. 👍

Absolutely incredible piece of art. Seen them a few times, and it was never any less than amazing.
Really liking the Mad Professor remix, which I've not heard before. Liked his work on Protection too, but if you can get hold of a copy of Rising Tears that's even betterer.
The work of unbridled genius!
Saw them on that tour at Manchester Apollo and I’ve never experienced bass like it. You could feel your rib cage vibrating.
You could feel your rib cage vibrating
Smith & Mighty got it spot on: "Bass is maternal, when it's loud I feel safer".
Bristol's reeling tonight; Mark Stewart RIP

The block party mix on Huey at the moment is really good. The volume keeps inching up 😀
One of my favourite albums of all time and one of the few from my late teens that I still listen to now!
Think I saw them on the tour for the next album (which was a bit pish) but had the same experience of feeling like my body was vibrating from the bass.
Brilliant album, also had my insides rearranged by the bass in Sheffield on that tour!
