I am looking to but my daughter a hands free phone car kit. Can you recommend me one that can make and receive telephone calls and play music?
Phone needs to use Bluetooth, but I have had an IO Play for years to do just this.
Involves removing the radio and fitting boxes and wires behind dash though.
There are probably better solutions, but it works very reliably for me.
Parrot was always my standard solution before they were built into cars. A few years ago, it was a couple of hundred for the kit and professional installation. No idea what it would be now though.
Perhaps replace the headunit with a bluetooth/usb unit e.g. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/bluetooth/head-units/dsx-a60bt-usb-car-stereo-with-bluetooth
I store all my music on a tiny usb flash drive.
I've heard good things about the parrot one that clips to the sunvisor. No wiring and can be swapped between vehicles. £60
I'd be tempted to go for a new stereo (as above) with Bluetooth functionality.
You then also have the option of sticking in an SD card for most of your music library, but also being able to stream Spotify or Internet Radio if required.
Some of the newer Parrot systems will do Bluetooth music streaming, but that will require installation to the existing stereo & an additional small unit/screen to stick to the dash.
There is the option of a visor mounted Bluetooth hands free. That will probably work fine for telephone calls, but the music streaming will only be to the speaker in the device itself, so the sound won't be brilliant.
I've got a Supertooth hands free visor thingy and that works fine for calls and routing sat nav directions through, but I wouldn't listen to music through it.
Parrot Sunvisor one I had was crap - bought a Basic parrot fitted one recently - was about £100 fitted, excellent bit of kit, thoroughly recommend.
The music version of it is about £170 fitted, so I didn't go for it
If it has a single ISO headunit then just get one with BT built in.
If not then get the parrot - the MKI series.
Which one just depends on what screen you want to look at for the info.
I just went for the top one - the 9200 - removable screen, loads of options, remote control, etc.
