Never had one before so looking for recommendations. I’ve inherited a reindeer skin rug that looks great but sheds at an alarming rate.

Handheld vac recommendations? Must be small, powerful and aesthetically pleasing. No dyson monstrosity.

Cheers!

G/f bought a Shark a few years ago (maybe 3-4), it's fine for tiles and dog hair but fills up very very quickly. To the point the g/f managed to fill the tube down to the brush head completely full of hair.. and wondered why it still wasn't working, when she emptied it (I was vaguely impressed/depressed about it).
She has since tried her parents Dyson, and recons that's more powerful, though I'm not convinced you need it

Got one of these from Hoover direct for 100 quid on offer.

https://www.hooverdirect.co.uk/products/h-free-500-pets

Its excellent. consistently pulls a terrifying amount of fluff and hair out of our house.
Good run time, light weight.
It does feel like it might break if handled roughly, but thats probably related to it being light weight.
All plastic and aluminium. No steel or Iron involved.

I have a Dyson Vsomething, it's great but the battery life is garbage. I wouldn't buy another (though not least because of politics).

I'm lead to believe that Shark and Miele are market leaders currently, that's where I'd be looking if I wanted a replacement.

You should be just about to hit Black Friday deals direct on the Shark website. We have their handheld from about 4 years back and it's really useful. Ours also came with a second battery. You just have to remember to empty it and clean out the filters frequently to get good suction if your other half is unlikely to ever do it!

Miele are very good, but relatively very heavy. And very expensive. Dyson are very expensive, and work very well for a time, then they start to break and fall apart. Other brands are a lot cheaper and probably 90% as good. It's a vacuum cleaner; don't overthink it. I bought an AEG QX9, because it was light, very manoeuvrable, versatile, well made and very quiet compared to others. Go to somewhere like John Lewis where you can try them out.

I was looking at sharks but I ended up getting this^ as it was cheaper.

I really rate it. Perfect for a flat or 2 bed house, and for people who don't like hoovering, you can just whip it out, have a quick wizz round and then put it away again. Easy.

Pros:
Very light weight
Folds down very compact
Very manuverable

Cons:
Smaller than average battery/run time and cylinder, so you probably want something a bit heftier for a larger house.

The turbo mode sucks really well but totally cains the battery in no time, but to be fair, regular power mode works fine most of the time anyway.

Cheers, that linked one looks like a full on vacuum cleaner. I’m on about the little dustbuster type things.

Looking at a Vax Gator. Anyone got one?

we have a Border Collie and a Dyson DC35 that has been amazing. Its very old now and on its 4th battery off of eBay. Same as the main vacuum, I have spare filters and swap them out and give the whole thing a strip and wash/clean every now and then to keep them sweet.

DC35 used might be a plan?

It is, but for the price it's a good package. It's basically a really good dustbuster with regular vaccume style attachments. It's pretty modular.

I got a Makita one, as it uses the batteries I've already got. Seems pretty good.

Our Shark has excellent cat hair pick up - their brush heads are the best I've ever used. It has very little actual suck (way less than a Dyson), but as you can't suck hair out of carpets, it's not actually necessary to sound like a jet fighter taking off.
