Looking at the Garmin Oregon and GPSMAP
Any other recommendations?
Garmin Dakota 20. Was about £120 6-8 months ago. Plus £20 for maps from a dodgy man on the internet or free ones from talky toaster
I've just "upgraded" from Dakota 20 to Oregon 600 as I prefer the bigger screen. It's also noticeably faster at map re-draws and has a few more menu/customisation features I prefer.
eTrex 20 or 30
OSM maps from wherever (think garmin.openstreetmap.nl is the one I use)
Oregon are very good. Someone was selling one in the classifieds so might be worth checking.
I use a gpsmap 62st and it's brilliant, very accurate, works well undercover and tough as heck (although smacking it on quartzite, rolling off a cliff and 45 mins in the sea did finish it off). I bought it initially for geological mapping but now use it for geocaching and on the bike.
