Got a job coming up soon in Sligo , Ireland and usually ferry to and from Dublin. I’m familiar with the oral customs declaration for the kit I carry in my car, travelling both ways through Dublin as it’s stamped both ways. I’ve thought about going into Belfast and out of Dublin but can’t find any information on how to go on re customs declaration as Customs in Belfast is still uk and not EU. Any ideas what happens with this situation? If it’s going to be too much hassle I’ll stick with Dublin both ways. Cheers.

Officials were going through the queue onto the ferry last time we went over. Seemed more like a security check. First time we've seen anyone and we've done Liverpool - Belfast a few times now. Never seen anyone getting stopped getting off the boat. Once you are on the island you don't even know you've crossed the border unless there is a speed limit sign. We came back via Rosslare once and the customs guy there was happy for us to to just state everything in the back was personal stuff. He said we only got stopped as we were in a van, he also said the rules were a bit of a mess and they being pretty flexible.

Much prefer the timing of the Belfast ferry and it's been zero hassle for us so far.

It's quite a nice drive going from Belfast to Sligo, too.

Is it a UK reg car / van? Only hand tools?

I cross regular from Belfast to Cairnryan and never had a question. Driving to the republic or going one way: I do it all the time. How are they ever going to know where to have been once you get to the ferry: unless you have a sign saying CHECK ME.

Disembarking in Cairnryan: there are only police looking for drugs / dogs / etc. No customs - IME.

Irish customs won’t care about you taking tools out via Dublin port. They work to protect the Irish/EU market, not the UK market.

Yeah it’s a Uk car. I’ve been pinged before going into Rosslare. Stopped and searched and when asked was I there for work or pleasure I was escorted to the new customs house where I had to fill in an oral declaration for the tools I was carrying. This was duplicated and stamped on way in and way out. Also did it going on and out of Dublin a few months later. My question is I’ll be going in via uk customs to Belfast , crossing border and coming out with undeclared kit from Dublin.
https://www.revenue.ie/en/customs/businesses/temp-admission-exports/rules-procedures/admission-oral-customs-declaration.aspx#:~:text=If%20you%20make%20an%20oral,and%20place%20of%20re%2Dexportation.

Maybe I’m over thinking it. It’s just technically UK/Ireland/UK as TH said Just don’t want to be bogged down any where after a long week away.
