Any recommendations?
I'll be working from home until Covid calms down again and enjoy a Moka pot coffee in the mornings, at the moment with cheap pre-ground stuff.
Will have a bit more time to arse around with a morning brew so going to get an Aeropress as well to give that a go (will be taking this setup when I go fishing and camping too)
I will not however be growing a tousled stache, turning up my trousers or listening to any awkward ambient music (that's a lie actually, love Aphex Twin!)
What grinder would be most suitable for an Aeropress and Moka pot?
Porlex mini.
Endeth thread.
I have a knock off. It does grind very well but it's a little loose in fit which gets tiring trying to hold it shut and grind.
I've been using one of these for a year with an espresso machine and recommend it. Expensive though. You also need the Redclix axle if grinding for espresso.

I've got one of these and it's great & fits in your Aeropress to make a compact travel kit.
It costs a fair bit more than the Porlex but it feels bombproof & gives a far better grind.

Knock. Anything by knock.
aergrind is good, over engineered and expensive.
So, I have two of them 🤪
ETA: I had a cheap (£45!) rhino(?) one. It was shit. I had to change arms mid grind (twice!) it was so shit. Bought an aergrind, just bliss in comparison. Had mine about four years now. Never missed a beat.
A Hario Skerton, and a 7mm hex bit for your drill driver 🙂
I ran the hario + mod but it only lasted 18months before the plastic support for the burrs cracked.
Mostly I hand ground though so it wasn't the mod with electric screwdriver that did it in.
I bought a hario skerton recently. It grinds the coffee easily, has variable grind size and costs a fair wack less than most of the above suggestions
If you are using a drill driver with the hario - put a washer under spigot that’s the handle mounts on
Feld47 with titanium burrs please.
If you’re not grinding for machine espresso then you likely don’t need to be spending too much as you don’t need that ultra repeatable fine adjustment.
Porlex are rated - tbh I didn’t like mine. The Timemore grinders are good, 38mm steel conical burr works well for Aeropress and will grind plenty fast enough while the kettle boils. They’re around 50 quid direct from Aliexpress, bit more from Cremashop etc.
I'd get an Aergrind or Aerspeed - my Knock Feld47 is great for espresso but bulkier than you'd want to pair with an aeropress generally.
1zpresso Q2 is definitely worth a look also.
I’ve got the SingleTrack World Rhino one. The branding has worn off very quickly so it’s now just silvery.
I’m totally over hand-grinding for my coffee. It’s hard work and I feel very self conscious doing it at the office.
I’ll save the grinder for trips out I think 🙂
Cheapo one from eBay is all you need, think I spent about £12. Comes with a spare storage jar and it'll do a really fine grind for espresso.
Bonus feature: If I'm making loads of coffee there's a little nob on top that fits in the chuck of my Makita drill. Can do about 250g of beans in a couple of minutes.

I'd avoid those. They're really not that good.
If you've an aeropress, it's worth buying something that fits inside it.
In accordance witb STW regulations I bought a Knock aergrind. It was a "factory seconds" from the Knock website - had a minute mark on the outside but was considerably reduced in price from "you gotta be kidding price" to "well, it will be worth it in the long run" price, so worth checking if they have more.
Aye, another satisfied Knock user here. It's a coffee grinder, but if you appreciate quality engineering you'll like these a lot.
My main problem with the Porlex was the handle flying off the spigot - this seems to have been addressed on newer ones. They also claim it fits in an aeropress which technically it does but I often struggled to get the grind receptacle to come back out. Not totally convinced about ceramic burrs either.
It still gives sterling service at home grinding cumin and coriander seeds for curry!
Hand grinders can result in some dysfunctional muscle development with their asymmetry.
I'm about to set up an indiegogo for a bluetooth/ANT+ FE-C controllable Zwift coffee grinder. This is a tie up where you will ride through virtual coffee plantations and then make your way to the market, roasters and finally over a finish line conveniently close to a virtual cafe with an appropriate portion of your wattage delivered to a burr grinder loaded by drone delivery with the beans corresponding to your route choice. Grind is determined by nailing your wattage through an intervals session so extra motivation to go deep in your pain cave or you'll be sucking dishwater.
eBikers can have Mellow Birds.
+ 1 Hario Skerton - why pay more? Sold by the roaster i get my beans from.
No brogues, tache, tats or checked shirts required.
Thanks for the replies! Went down a bit of a grinder wormhole in the last week or so looking at reviews galore online. Decided on a 1Zpresso J-Max. Not the most portable but seems to punch out of its class.
Really wanted to get something by Knock as its produced in the UK but read a load of stuff online about lousy treatment of customers even at the time that they did a Kickstarter where people gave generous donations and took an age to receive there products, if at all.

I'm tattooed, with a 'tache and brogue boots, but I only wear plain shirts so I must be in the clear, right?
Just ordered an Aergrind and Aeropress from Knock
And some Planalto from Pact
This will be my first foray into properly making my own coffee - will be an outdoors experience, using it for work out in the field
I'd be interested to know how you get on with it, I have an espresso machine and electric grinder for at home but want something for holidays that isn't too large.
I don't rate the cheap grinders with ceramic burrs and the options for steel burrs under £100 either have mixed reviews or are very big or heavy. The fact the Aergrind is only a bit more expensive and is seemingly well made with easily available spares is a big plus for me. Some of the customer service sounds iffy but I like the sound of longevity over saving a few quid in the short term
Damn this thread!…had no previous interest in a coffee grinder whatsoever…perfectly happy with preground. Now I’ve got a 1zpresso k-max and a whole load of different beans to grind in it. Must stay off the espresso machine thread!!!

I’ve ordered 3 or 4 times over the last 4-5 years and everything ordered has turned up in perfect condition and robustly packaged. First order probably took 10-14 days (but iirc that was what was on the website re. delivery at the time).
It took me about six months to be able to place my first order as the website was continually out of stock. They gave off the vibe of being a bloke in a shed type enterprise that just couldn’t keep up with demand. Seems a lot more ‘professional’ these days.
Finally got around to breaking in my titanium burred Feld47 at long last 🤪
Whilst I appreciate the smoothness of action it is a little on the large side (diameterwise) for aeropress use...
You do know there is a more aeropress sized option don't you...

Yup, you see that 3-4 orders bit? I’ve also an aergrind. Tbh I intended to get the Feld but was distracted when the email came through and didn’t make the connection so the physically larger body only really became apparent to me only when I first used used the Feld47... 🤦🏻♀️
Hehe fair enough.
I have a Feld47 also and I really like it - I had no issues with customer service either. It's mostly resigned to cafetiere duties now as I've got a Eureka Mignon for espresso which is our usual drink. 🙂
