OUr bathroom currently has MR16 halogens. We're getting it redone so i naturally want to change to LEDs.
Here's what I have in the loft:
What exactly do need?
Presumably i need LED bulbs, light fittings and transformers.
Is it simply a question of buying something like this?
Is there a reason I should be sticking with MR16s versus going for 240v GU10s?
ANything I need to be aware of given this is a bathroom? One of the lights is over the shower.
I'm not doing the fitting myself but just want to make sure i've got the right kit ready to go.
LEDHUT seem to have good reviews so I'm likely to get the kit from there. If the above isn't what i need please feel free to link to what i do!
Thanks
Easy job.... I've done about 50 so far. You can do it yourself if you know which way to hold a screwdriver.
Don't bother with 12v just remove the transformers and connect directly to 240v GU10 LEDs. So all you need are LEDs and GU10 leads.
I've used the 5w wide angle ones from ledhut and in 18 months I have only had one failure (worked fine but buzzed when dimmed) - overall cost quite a bit but has been one my my better decisions.
I've left the halogen over the shower until I can be bothered buying the correct fitting.
You will have a far wider choice of lamp using GU10's.
When I bought my current house 9 years ago we went down the route of low voltage MR16 lamps as that was the thing to do as the lamps lasted longer than mains GU10's.
LED technology has moved on massively and I have replace quite a few of my MR16's with LED lamps but now the transformers are starting to go so will just convert to GU10 LED's.
Also the GU10 lamps are cheaper but don't by cheap brands. Stick to Philips or Toshiba and you will get reliable good quality lamps. A nice natural colour temp is 2700k often described as Very Warm White.
