My friends are going through a rather bitter divorce which involves multi million pound sums of money.
In the year they have been apart she has got a new phone and iCloud account.
Yesterday it popped up on her phone that her ex was trying to log into his account and to allow? Normally you say yes ,the numbers come up on another device and you put them in your phone and away you go.
Can one account be verified from another? If so how would he know her account to put as trusted one (unlikely)?
Due to the amount of money being disputed (sensitive topics are discussed outside in case he has bugged the house) is it possible that he has somehow gained access to her phone?

Not really sure what you are asking here. But, if she has a good, secure password (not using an old one that he could guess) and 2FA then she shouldn't have anything to worry about.

I've always found Apple security to be very good and very easy to check. If she is not sure get her to do a security housekeeping check, Apple makes that very easy.

Sounds to me like the two part authentication is turned on still and the device the other party has is the device used as part of the two factor authentication. I dont believe one account can be verified from another however i do wonder if her device although she has a new account is still running the old apple ID rather than that of the new one created for icloud. Check settings-apple ID and all devices using the account will be displayed.

Just a thought, Apple has some pretty smart family settings, if she has previously linked their respective accounts through family settings there is, potentially, a vulnerability now that they are no longer a family.

If she is near a Apple store it may be worth getting a Genius bar appointment and going through things with a real life Apple techie human . Alternatively speak to someone form Apple on the phone. I have found their tech support to be absolutely superb and it would give her piece of mind.

Good tips. She's had a look and her iPad is not showing up on her account.
She is also looking at the kids stuff. Her oldest son at uni went to sign up for some dating site . It popped up that there was already an account. Turned out to be his dad's.
The modern world is confusing.

you can have multiple numbers listed for TFA, my kids accounts number listed and an additional contact.

Settings - AppleID - Password & Security - Trusted phone number

its easy enough to edit if you are the account holder.

I'd go in via icloud.com and check of signed in devices and clean up any old kit she may no longer
have access to.

Bit awkward if you show up for a blind date and it's your Dad.

I agree, yet all of these things are designed to make our life simpler!

No, they were designed to separate us from our money like all consumer goods. I hasten to add I fall for it as much as the next person.
