Very shortly I’ll be installing decking in the back garden, and I’ve been granted permission to also build a shed along side which I intend to use as a mini gym.

I don’t plan on having a great deal of equipment in there (turbo trainer, rowing machine, bar bell, pull up bar etc), but it would appear that the biggest size shed I can fit is 10ft x 6ft.

Does anyone use a shed for a home gym, and would a shed of that size be a bit small for what I’m after?

Cheers

Sounds pretty small to me for use as a gym. Plus what would you do with the floor? Need something pretty solid for a barbell.

Yeah, I was thinking it would be a bit ‘close’.

The shed will be built on a frame, so I was going to put in more framework and a thicker floor sheet.

I’m not planning on installing a squat rack, or anything like that, just a bar for deadlifts

The floor is one thing but what about the roof !!

Shed roofs are low .... You'll probably not be able to properly hang from the pull up bar, doubt you'll be able to do anything over head with the barbell and even sitting on the bike on the turbo might be tight....

Shame

Good luck

I’ll be building the shed from scratch so I can make it as high as needed.

Fair point on the turbo, I’ll measure it up and see how much room I need.

I have a 10x8 plywood shed that I turbo in with power via a long extension and internet for zwift via that power lead.

Its also full of other stuff,2 more bikes & wheels, work bench with lawn mower underneath, shelves and other stuff.

As it is I can turbo, do pull ups off the rafters and dips between the workbench and a fold up workbench thing.

If it was just for a gym (so not all the other shed bruck) there'd be space for turbo, rower and a barbell. As others have said I'd think about floor strength for a barbell, especially dead lifting. The rafters in mine are high enough for over head presses, I have to jump to grab them for pull ups.

Ah that’s reassuring longdog. I do believe that a wider shed would be better, I just need to figure out how.

I’ll take heed to the floor warnings mind and make sure I have adequate strength under foot. The shed and decking will all be on the same frame, so I’ll probably sink a few extra posts as well as more framework.

Thanks all

You can always do L sit pull-ups, more bang for your buck.
