Can't see a thread on this which feels odd!

Really interesting show on c4 right now (Sunday 9pm) about the country's power, coal, gas, renewables, national grid..

All really interesting and he does a great job of presenting it.

I do wonder what Dibnah would have made of this

Yep, especially if he was near the top.

Loved the demolition bit, especially the drone shots. The chimney dropping straight down into its own footprint was particularly impressive.

Is it the usual production company with exactly the same formula as usual, or actually something worth watching?

I got to about 10 mins into this, lost the will to live at the demonstration of how electricity is generated.

Very annoying ( other views are possible)

Got as far as the first ad break at which point we had only established that electricity is expensive at the moment, gave up then. Pretty dull

It's the usual Guy Martin program, but I'd say there's a fair bit of interest and education for a lot of people in there. I have no issue with making these sort of things accessible for people to watch and get an idea if what actually goes on and some of the issues involved.

TV shows about technology subject (even with Guy Martin) are always dumbed down so hard that I find it irritating and facile - so I don't watch.

Do they tell you what is going to happen and then recap what has happened leaving very little time for some actual content?

What so the 1hr long programme has about 15 mins of content? I am sure at some point he will look confused, and at some point make a brew, and at some point refer to a past series he's been in.

I will watch it tonight with the remote in hand.

I actually think he would be capable of making really good content, I actually think these days the production company are hindering him.

The narrator's voice on all the GM TV things really annoys me for some reason.

I want Guy's workshop/farm though

I had to laugh at the idea of using red diesel to power a generator to charge an electric car!

Quite interested in the monstrous looking grey mini glimpsed in one of his 'sheds'. Don't remember seeing that in any previous programmes unless I've missed one?

While thing was more dumbed down Dibnah than anything else, but loved his obvious and genuine delight at being allowed to trigger the demolition charges.

Yeah - Guy seems like a decent chap...

...but his programs are tuned for mass consumption (like most TV output of course) and hence almost no real content and I find it irritating. I tune in full of optimism and end up changing channels because it's boring and uninformative.

Fair play to him for working on the power line too. I expect there wasn't a live wire within a mile of the TV crew, but a lot of folk still wouldn't be comfortable stepping from a ladder to a wobbly platform at height. It was a bit 'Janet and John go generating' but it covered a lot of 'where we are now' so hopefully the next ones will show a bit more innovation.

My wife's watching some surgery at the edge of life thing at the moment and the guy narrates it in exactly the same fashion as a Guy Martin show, thankfully without the guaranteed setbacks there usually are in a GM show.

It is useful for many people as they literally have no idea where their electric, gas and water comes from. It's just there 24/7.

This is a very, very annoying feature of all these type of programmes. I like him, I like the subject, but they make it impossible to watch.

I loved the slow mo of the chimney ignition when you could see the spark follow the cable from the ground up to the charges. It almost fell in a heap so tidy they could use a dust pan and brush to clean it up

But those type of people are not going to watch a programme presented by Guy Martin

Crikey, sorry I mentioned it - didn't realise you all degrees in power generation and that a regular TV programme would be so beneath you.

I enjoyed his Fred Dibnah quote, surely a nod to all on here who claim he’s the modern Dibnah

Just binge watched the lot. Thought it was his best so far.

Was going to mention the nod to Fred Dibnah when the chimney got dropped, but everyone beat me to it.
