My son is playing hockey and needs a gumshield. Bought an OPRO Junior - for upto 9 yrs old - and followed the instructions, but it just won't grab on to his teeth and gums. We've tried it twice and each time he opens his mouth at the end it just drops.

Any tips?

No More Nails?

we did have issues with my sons one when he was smaller - had to do the 'heat and mould' thing a few times.

yeah, i've done it a couple of times but it's just not grabbing. he's got half emerged teeth front top and bottom. will that stop it from grabbing?

I suppose if there's gaps it'll give less stiction when it's in place.

Does anyone at the hockey club have any suggestions? Maybe other brands do a smaller size?

Ah, kid's gumshields! Been through so many of the damn things "Doesn't fit Dad", "uncomfortable Dad", "Don't like it Dad"!! And you just have to bin the damn things.
Only one he's been happy with is the Badboy which has 2 layers, the soft one is much more mouldable to the teeth, so it fits really well.

Go to the dentist and get one made -- will fit great and protect better too

You might need to chop a wee bit off the ends.

Opro do a pretty large range, is it hard or soft? With 3 kids playing Rugby and Gaelic football we have tried almost all of them. The soft bright coloured ones work best, the hard ones are a waste of time. If your kid has his permanent front teeth then it is work getting a custom one. Opro visit our club for this and charge £40.
