Does CITES apply to vintage instruments? Found a dream guitar at an affordable price even with the shipping costs from the US.
The guitar was made in 1977 by a named luthier using Ezo (Spruce) Indian Rosewood and Honduras Mahogany for the neck. Been round t’interweb asking the question but can only find information regarding new instruments. Honduras Mahogany was Apendix II while all Rosewood were Appendix I. Ezo is limited inside Japan.
However the regulations changed in Dec last year and appear to allow import without documentation for personal use and repair. Can anyone confirm that?
Is there import duty on used secondhand guitars?

I don't know about guitars but I know that old wood planes with rosewood handles are on the cites hit list and as such can't be exported.

My dad's guitar has a CITES cert. although it was a new guitar from recovered wood.

But I'd have thought it would apply.

CITES has been lifted from rosewood, except Brazilian rosewood. Yes you will need to pay both import duty and VAT on a guitar from the US if it’s over a certain amount (used to be £135). It goes on the shipped value of the goods, regardless of it being new or second hand. It can soon rack up - I got hit when the guitar was held by DPD and had to pay a pretty penny to get it released. example here https://www.homeoftone.co.uk/blogs/news/im-importing-a-guitar-from-the-usa-where-do-i-even-begin

Difficult to be more sustainable than a guitar that has existed for more than 40 years.
