i found my old guitar pedals under the bed having a big clear out. i almost forget i hade a digitech whammy pedal and various distorsions and so on.
how do i go about making a pedal board? bit of plywood and velcro? not sure i want to stick stuff on the bottom of the pedals. any resources you can point me to?
or just buy a commercial one?

Well they won't sit still if you don't! Get some velcro and whack it on.
I bought a Pedal Train from FB marketplace. There's dozens of the bloody things to choose from. Wood obviously works if you can be bothered.
I used old laths that I had knocking around in the garage. Make a basic frame and add cross pieces with enough gaps to add the connectors. Fluffy velcro (female) on the board and scratchy velcro (male) on the back of the pedal. You can get velcro by the metre. I suppose you could use zip-ties if you don't intend to swap and change that often.
<p style="text-align: left;">Depends what you're going to do with it really. If you're carting it to gigs every weekend then I'd buy one, as a homemade one will almost certainly be a lot heavier. It doesn't sound like that will be the case though, so I guess making one would work. I've actually got a Pedal train PT2 not being used that I need to shift. You can often unscrew the base from pedals and turn it over to stick velcro to that

I had a go at making one ages ago, but was never really happy with it. The power supply was annoying and it was a big clumpy thing, so irritating to cart around. Ended up getting a cheapish Palmer one (think the Harley Benson ones are the same, the ones with a rocket on), which appealed to me as you can get a power supply bar which replaces the top slat, which is nice and neat. Having all the pedals run on batteries is a royal pita.
I guess it ultimately depends how much you'll use it, and what for, though.
I've just bought a couple of pedals to start a board, hard to beat some muff on there.
You can make one easily. I think strips of wood (slats) are better than flat ply as you can put cables, etc underneath. Raise one long edge up sufficient to get the PSU under there and you're flying.
To stick them down Velcro is industry standard it seems. Zip ties work but you will always want to see whether OD A should go before or after distortion B so just accept that now and go for Velcro.
Pro tip: if the board is meant to travel, size it to some kind of travel solution as a part of the design. My DIY board was good but sized to my pedals and I found the only way to carry it was in a wheelie suitcase type bag. That worked but was unwieldy in combination with guitar in hard case, amp head, general bag o' bits, etc.
