You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I thought there may be a thread already but can't find one. So who's going?
Me: It's my first time and going alone. I'll be there camping, hopefully in the STW area. I've not entered any races but intend to ride the courses outside of the race times, chill, BBQ and drink some beers.
Eh, why are you going if your not entering a race. That's really the point of having a bike and going.
You can ride the course. Drink beer and socialise
You dont need to race.
I'm going and not racing as tbf I can't be arsed. I'm treating it as a weekend away.
Anyway I digress.
Me
@tthew from the glorious mnpr group will be there
I'm going, glad the weather is looking favourable.
I shall be there, racing and drinking much coffee and beer! Will the members area be well signposted, and what sort of capacity are we looking at therein?
I'll be there. been building up two retro bikes for the last few weeks just for the occasion.
a GT Zaskar LE and a dyna tech Torus with X-lite triple clamps.
no racing just beer
Been shopping today loaded up with beer!
I'm heading south tomorrow after work break the drive up as it's a fair slog from Scotland
Working there from Thursday morning til Sunday evening... Pop down and say hi (Schwalbe stand), especially if you want to talk tyres! 👍🏻
Checking in! Although Dunc already booked me in I see. I have a question, having not been before.
How self sufficient do I need to be with food and cooking? Much choice or basic burgers? Also, beer tent or being all I can carry?
Come and say hello to us at the 76 Projects stand. We'll have products for sale at event prices plus a couple of concept frames.
First time also. Going for the scene and atmosphere, have tickets to camp but may just turn up each day due to being local(ish).
Btw I'm in a summer friendly black VW t4 so come say hello
I live in Malvern and camping for the weekend. No races for me, but will be checking out the enduro course and beer tent.
Hi singletrackers... I have posted an update on what is what this coming weekend. Myself and Chipps are packing now... weather looks good... see you there.
Join us at The GT Malverns - tickets on the gate. | Singletrack Magazine (singletrackworld.com)
I will be there! Once I've gone out to buy more beer and snacks. As Charlie has said, there's a story (and a map!) with the who-camps-where map on it on the story...
I'd better dig out a bike too... what gravel bike for a 1990s throwback event? And what musty-smelling Been Bag top to bring? 🙂
I'm loaded with booze and bacon
See you there
I'll be there with the better half, rocking the fat bikes 🙂
Were here parked under a big tree. Left just after a porta cabin thing
Black T4 S132 is the 1st part of the reg number
The stewards have never heard of Single-track world so I've pitched at family camping. On the plus side I'm getting 4g
You have 4g? Are you sure you are at the right event?
Will be there for the day Saturday.
Intermittent 4g
Will be there from lunchtime tomorrow, bringing the kids for the afternoon then they're getting picked up and I'm sleeping in the van. Really looking forward to it. Would have liked to have gotten a Funnduro entry but left it too long and missed out. Probably better for my health - I don't have a great track record of riding against the clock. Will see if I can have a ride of the courses before/after the events, just for fun.
Not a chance, £33.00 fee to walk around a field looking at stuff for sale?
Plus parking-£11.00
Bloody ridiculous.
Was a great weekend. I completed the enduro 4 times over. Matey came second in the DH in his cat. Great weather
Matey came second in the DH in his cat.
Bet he's feline great about that
Well I enjoyed that! Was supposed to do the last XC race, but didn't fancy staying to the death considering how late stuff was running.
Got knocked out in the first round of the lake ride.
Anyone know what all the ambulances were for? There were a few knocking around site with the blues on and a couple more arriving as I left. Hope nothing serious.
Spinal on stage 1 apparently according to retro bike chaps.
Absolutely brilliant weekend. If I was clever enough to post pictures I would.
Top fun and food. Big love to @Charliedontsurf for cooking excellent Cuban chicken sardines...and carting a huge bag of booze up the hill.
My favourite quote from the show was retro bike Klein chap.
I'm not like them anal ****ers...... yeah I just take a thou of the cup so I can press it in...
Chipps DJ set was a soothing experience.
Cheers all and if any one found a singletrack tshirt in the camping field its mine. I ****ing left it on the van and drove off....
What a monumentally arse brained thing to do.
I'll pinch some of your Facebook photos and upload them later Dunc. My standard and volume of photography was to it's usual standard. 🙄
Cheers
Went for the day Saturday and spent most of my time chilling with mates (Retrobike members of old - does that make them retrobates…?), who bought their retro bikes to show.
I had a bloody lovely day! Mates and bikes and talking about bikes - not much better for the soul after the 18 months we’ve all been through!
Had a great day there with Jnr, he's desperate to camp for the weekend at next year's now and bring the bike to do the air bag jump.
Gutted I missed the sardines and beer on the ride of out but my daughter wanted to do a lap so she came first. Lovely to talk to Chipps and Charlie for the first time (couldn't be more jealous of the De Kerf jacket).
Great weekend. Particularly loved seeing so many families and all sorts of bikes instead of just top end bling.
Hopefully, next year there will be better catering and security.
The security bods were terrible, loved it when Hans Ray told them to leave a lad alone who was doing some awesome trials trickery. Yesterday it really kicked off with of with the Ambulance guys because security kept going missing from the access point the ambulance guys. And the scrotes still managed to nick stuff during the night.
I heard the Cannondale and Hope wagons got done over in the night. Plus someone got their battery nicked from the ebike charging place.
I know Shaun at Ion got hit and they tried the GT truck.
The security were more arsed about smuggling beer in than peoples security.
We just hurled beer over the fence😛🥃🍻
I've a solution for night security. A night time xc endurance race sponsored by exposure
It was great to be back in a field with people who like/ride bikes.
Lots of Duncans.
Too much beer and coffee.
A very excitable South Wales Massive.
Thanks to the Singletrack crew.
No thanks to not bringing my tent and leaving all my kit in the lounge.
They seemed very focussed on preventing alcohol entering the arena area - not sure they were given great guidance on priorities. Not sure how they got the direction and staffing so wrong that commercial and private attendees were hit that badly… A change of security approach for the next event seems a sensible idea.
The jump builder lost all his tools that is perhaps stupidly stored under the start ramp.
The head security woman saw a friend take out a drink purchased at the bar for someone just outside the gate. When the friend went to go back inside she was told she couldn't take her drink back in despite security watching her all the time. Their attitude stank and was at odds with the rest of a great event.
To end on a positive note it was refreshing to see hardly any litter.
Some nice pics on retro bike!

Really? Andy, Nigel, me and a couple of the volunteers spent about 30 minutes clearing the area in front of the stage on Sunday while Chipps was soft-rocking our hangovers away!
Anyhow, photo's.

I was a bit gutted about the lack of demo bikes - I deliberately didn't take my bike because I thought I'd be able to demo stuff like previous years. Catering queues were horrendous too, I really felt for the staff (especially when a woman had a massive rant at the pizza stand as she'd queued for over an hour not knowing what size the pizzas were... )
Still a great event though, lovely atmosphere, and brilliant seeing all the kids on bikes! Our five year old also seems to have developed a love of late 80s/early 90s dance tunes as a result of the band on Saturday, the weirdo. I'm also pretty certain that we're going to end up with some 90s retro bike in the garage - Mr Toast has been waxing lyrical about old Zaskars and GTs for years, I think it might have pushed him over the edge...
Talking to a few of the brands, supply is such such problem this year that they don't really have current demo fleets because there just aren't any bikes to spare.
There is more than 1 bike brand that gave the show a miss this year because of this, which actively bodes well for it getting even bigger and better in the future as things return to 'normal'
Yeah, I should have realised really in retrospect - I was looking for a new bike a few months ago, and a lot of shops/brands that usually do demos said that the manufacturers were so short of stock that they didn't have a 2021 demo fleet (or in some cases, stuff to sell).
Probably for the best, last time I rode Castle Eastnor it didn't end well! (*flashbacks to MM 2012*)
