Just noticed this in the last few weeks! When pulling off (just in 1st gear) from a standing start, esp if you are pulling hard or when doing a hill start, there is a grumbling noise for the first second when moving off, but once moving gear changes are fine.

I dont think the clutch is slipping, as the revs seem fairly normal for what is being applied and also when pulling in any other gear. It feels more like a drive issue, but this is pure speculation on my part. The same noise is NOT noticed when pulling away using second gear (obviously dipping clutch as necessary).

Obvious candidates when looking at the Haynes manual are teh CV joints and gearbox gears. But, I was wondering if anyone had any hints/tips etc on this! I dont fancy having a whole gearbox/clutch assembly replaced if it is not economical- car is a 1.6i Club 2004 with full service history.

Fingers crossed.....
