Achilles has been bugging me for a while, just a dull ache nothing serious, thought 3 weeks off exercise in sept would sort it but it's still there. Horror story from bloke at work about his snapping and not being able to walk for a year has worried me.

Anyone had this from cycling? What did you do to sort?

I get it every time (nearly) I go past the 130mile mark on a ride...

I find simply resting it as soon as it grumbles sorts it out (the flip side of keeping riding makes it soooo bad).

You can try achilles specific stretching and concentric loading, with anti inflammatories etc.

When mine was really bad I used to go around with a gel wine cooler thing taped to my heel!!

He said his just snapped on day during physio, worried me as I had the osteo working it first thing this morning 🙁

I've got a ankle brace on, raised, I'll try the wine cooler thing too.

Been doing ankle dips on the stairs hasn't seemed to have helped.

Even though it says Calf Stretch I was told to do this exercise twice daily.

Just recovered from Achillies Tendon Rupture. And doing the above has aided recovery. I also wear a Gel Insert in my shoe which raises the heel up.

I suffered Achillies Tendinopathy in the past before it finally went bang in June. And was told as drp says anti inflammatories, rest or at the very least stop the activity which is causing the pain. It can take weeks and sometimes months for it to subside.

Mine was insertional Achillies Tendinopathy. Don't know if thats makes any difference. But the rupture was further up from the heel.

I had this back in June. it took a couple of weeks to work out what was too much for it too soon and what was ok but I got the pain out of it in about three weeks by icing it five times a day for about twenty mins 'till it went numb then warming it back up and gentle stretching. I could ride the bike after a couple of weeks but only gently and had to be careful how far I walked in one go. I think it was about a month before it felt normal again and then a few weeks after that building back up to normal levels of activity.

I've had tendinitis for years. About 10 years ago I went to Salford uni podiatry dept. You act as a bit of a guinea pig for the students, and after filming me running they built me some inserts which stopped my ankle moving inwards on foot strike, cured it instantly. I do still get it from time to time but nowhere near as bad as it was. Might be worth a try.
