Wanting to have a go at growing mushrooms, as I've seen the plugs you can buy with the mushroom spores already on.

We have a fairly damp bit of woodland, so could be ideal.

Anyone ever tried growing mushrooms themselves?

I would forage for them, but do not know enough and risk is quite high.

You can have a bit a fun with them. I've grown Oyster mushrooms in / on books. Never got round to finishing reading Focoult's Pendulum so I ate it instead.

Got some Lions Mane mushroom plugs to try out next

Some are just 'plug' and play, just leave them to do their thing. Oyster mushrooms need to be tricked a bit. They need a certain period of cold for them the be triggered to create fruiting bodies so you need to move them into the fridge for a certain period and they'll fruit when you take it back out - which is why books are a bit more convenient than logs.

Growing them out doors.... slugs will find them and eat them much quicker than you will!
