Moving a large workbench yesterday and something went pop in the groin area , painful enough to make me vomit .

Gave the doc a call and got an emergency appointment , fortunately not a hernia but a bad tear/strain in the inguinal area ( so the doc says ) .

So sat here like busta gonad full of pain killers and naproxen felling pissed off and bored already .

Anyone else had the same or similar , what sort of healing time if I'm sensible ?

Had it many years ago when I was about 14. Full on pop - felt like my leg dislocating. Took a good 6 months to heal fully, even with youth on my side.

I had similar a few months ago - suffered a groin strain whilst competing in the Durham duathlon. It hurt like a bitch for the next week or so - it was that bad i thought i had a hiatus hernia for a while. I basically hardly moved off the settee and took copious amounts of Paracetamol and whatever NSAIDs i could get my hands on. After a week of gentle mobilisation i was good enough the following weekend to compete in the Stockton Duathlon. No problems since.

Sounds familiar.  Look up 'Gilmore's groin/sporting hernia' and rule that out.

Had a 'mare these last two years as Feb 2016 I popped my (already weak from prior heavy lifting/slip years earlier) injury on left side, this time going mental on intervals with rowing machine with bad technique (poor gym induction to be fair) and then spincycle.  Really made a mess as literally ANY lifting therafter set me back weeks, constant nagging pain and like a pulling sensation.  Saw two specialists, both agreed not a hernia,  second one ordered ultrasound.  Found nothing operable and said this was probably 'more complicated than a hernia' ie- considerable ligament and tissue damage around pubic tubercle.  Ordered 'rest'.

I ask how long?  'As long as it takes' was his response, with a hopeless shrug for effect.

Rested for months.  Slipped in mud, went back months. FFS!

Cycling and swimming were out completely, as was lifting and vigorous bedroom shenags (time to learn Tantra 😗) - In fact even sleep (ie lying down) made it worse than walking.  Driving hurt.  Very frustrating two years but I'm getting there and now cycling again and watching for the warnings which are thankfully getting less and less as buIlding up lost core strength.

Go see a specialist, identify the exact site and extent if poss, and then concentrate on stretches at first.  Ice may help now.  IANAD etc

The better of the two specialists I saw spent a good long time making me perform a number of resistance moves and resulting pain reports to get a good idea, as well as the ultrasound.

Good luck, put in the time and effort and money if required to diagnose properly as it can be literally life-changing/limiting if not dealt with properly.

@ Malvern rider , thanks for the info on Gilmores . I'll mention it to my doctor . Been on anti inflammatory and painkillers since Thursday with no reduction in pain or swelling 🙁
