Grippy running socks?

Do these things exist? Just ran partially up a steep mountainside and back down. My feet were slipping forward in my shoes quite a bit despite them being as good a fit normally as any I've worn, and they are fine on sensible gradients.

Anyone remember that time trialist that put some sort of grip tape on his saddle :—)

I can’t help with socks but might be worth spending time looking at other lacing techniques as there are different lace patterns to prevent this. If you search runners loop it should help.

Yep sounds like you need an ankle lock on your laces

I use a mixture of Trusox or liner and normal rugby socks when refereeing. Trusox certainly help with minmising the little bits of slippage that cause blisters. But on a pitch there's lots of stop/ start and turning. Maybe try a more cushioned running sock and / or how you lace your trainers?

So there is when picking your way down a steep hillside.

Tbh, that reads like its the shoes not the socks to me.

Are they trail or full on fell/hill running shoes. Ive both and the trail shoes do not work as well on steep ground for holding my feet in place.

I dunno what kind they are. Reasonably snug as they are, I got blisters on the side of my toes the first few goes. Wouldn't want any tighter. Maybe a more supportive upper would help.

The runners loop, IL try it but I'm not sure it's the problem. I feel that the socks are particularly slippy which might be good in normal running but less good in this scenario. I'll try different socks I own but I just wondered if sock grippiness was a thing. I guess not.

It is 100% a thing! I remember seeing an advert for some online and thinking there was some sense to it

I didn’t buy any though so no idea whether they actually work

Had another thought on socks-what about some trampoline socks? Really cheap to try if you have a local Freedog or Better trampoline park.

Sorry it’s your shoes, not your socks that are the issue

Ive had Saucony Peregrinea that claimed to be an off road shoe. They had an aggressive sole but as soon as you got anywhere steep your foot moved around.

It was the construction that was too soft and had 2 weird insoles in the shoe.

Scrapped them straight away and went back to Inov8

@funkydunc is correct. Your shoes are at fault. Probably, they are the wrong size, but alternatively it could be that you've got 'trail' shoes, when what you want is more of a 'fell' shoe.

Eg i bought a lovely pair of Altra Mont Blancs (designed for the UTMB). As soon as I tried to contour on a leg of the bob my feet just started sliding laterally over the shoe.

Can recommend trying other shoes.

I mean I'd also suggest injinji toe socks but they won't make a difference to forward/backward foot slip.

If you really don't want new shoes, tie a heel lock lace (google it) before trying anything else.
