As some of you know, 2 weeks ago I started a 2 year placement with the VSO in Ethiopia.

The last two weeks have mainly been spent in Addis on in country training, but now I'm in my new home of Awassa in Southern Ethiopia. It's been a long day with Hippos being the highlight...

I'll be blogging about it here...

http://ride-lots.blogspot.com/

And photos to come here...

And tweets here...

Tomorrow I move into my VSO house where I understand there is a bike!

Stay tuned...

Paul

Good job. My parents did exactly the same thing 40 years ago. I think that the challenge you face will be greater though. The country has been through some tough times lately...

Cheers all... I will try and update when I can, internet permitting.

In the mean time, keep an eye on the blog!

Captain Flashheart- the bilharzia is a bit of a turn off for any watersports I'm afraid! Though Lake Langano to the north is meant to be OK for swimming...

Hi Paul. Good to hear from you and sorry I had to postpone the CG ride that would have been your last UK one!

Just read your blog, sounds like it will be quite an experience. Glad you are enjoying it 🙂

Hi Elaine,

Definately an experience of a lifetime...

Not to worry about the ride, as Arnie would say, I'll be back!

I got away to the Forest of Dean for a last bimble on the Turner- seems like an age ago rather than under a month!

I've now got CDMA mobile internet so will be able to stay in touch better...

If more of us could be bothered the world would stand a chance of being a nicer place to live in. Well done, I'm rather envious you know...

Hairychested, thankyou. It's nice that people appreciate what the VSO do, and after the week I've had, I really apprecaiate the support...

First case of Africa stomach for me, and that removed a lot of the sense of humour that is required out here...
