Just forked out the best part of £15 in WhSmith for 3 mothers day cards + stamps. Following cloesly on the heels of valentines day and christmas.  It does make me wonder why i bother.

Surely they have had thier day?

I think nobody younger than my parents really cares about getting cards in the post, i know i don't. Think of the enviromental impact of printing and delivering them not to mention the person-hours.

Next year i'm texting my mum instead.

My wife says they are a lovely gesture, really nice to receive a card and i'm a grumpy old git.

Who's right please?

How did you end up with three mothers?

I mostly gave up on greetings cards years ago, they'll only end up in the bin/recycling anyway. Facebook has supplanted birthday cards and I'm increasingly becoming less arsed about even doing that. My former Christmas money goes to a food bank donation. I'd send a card to my mum because she'd be offended if I didn't, that's about it. My partner and I didn't even bother with valentine's day cards this year.

I buy all the cards I need for the year from small makers on Etsy, very handy as I can’t get to any shops, just got my batch of 7 for the year and they are all very decent.

I buy from independent shops/makers. I’ve made my own in the past (it’s a bit time consuming.

lots of these cards support charities. Also I personally get pleasure from sending and receiving a card.

A bit of a plug, my wife runs a small art business and sells (amongst other things) greetings cards based on her own original artwork.

They are printed at a small local printer on sustainably sourced paper and wrapped in compostable film.

She's not making mega bucks but gets a genuine kick whenever someone buys her art. A lot cheaper than what the OP paid too! Bramble Cottage Artwork
