I’m looking to hire a Vito bus for a couple of days, and Greenmotion are half the price of anyone else. Are they are awful as I’ve been led to believe, and best avoided?

Our excess insurance covers all rental companies apart from one. We don't provide excess reimbursement for claims made as a result of rentals from GreenMotion. This is because we did some research and found that there was a much higher chance of being charged for damage (and a higher amount) by GreenMotion than with other rental companies.

Greenmotion are a franchise operator and the individual outlets have been known to have some questionable business practices. My own excess insurer specifically excluded 2 named Greenmotion outlets a few years ago.
I was caught out by the Gatwick site with a scratch under the front of the car that the staff member obviously knew about as it was the the very first thing he went to upon my return. Luckily my insurer repaid the £300 within 7 days of my claim.
Personally, I would never use them again but if you have good excess cover, the time to deal with the claim and a camera capable of taking hi res images under a car in a muddy car park, then go for it.

Extremely slow service on pickup - can take an hour or more to get the car.
High amounts held on your credit card for 7 days after

Cars/vans were in good condition and no issues around charges for scrapes etc, though I did take pics/vids with the person there

If you're prepared, then it's a good price

I normally use enterprise - they have a really good policy on damage - they do not nitpick on tiny bits. they have a weird pricing policy tho so always check beforehand online - sometimes are much cheaper than others.

Avoid. Used once, on return the guy immediately went and pointed out a tiny mark on the wheel arch, barely visible- didn’t even pretend to ‘inspect’ the vehicle, and charged us £600. My 3rd party excess insurer paid, but this is a widely reported scamming company.

Funnily enough a post cropped up on Twitter this morning regarding them refusing to honour a telephone booking because the driver was a musician!

Thanks all - this confirms exactly what I suspected. I shall seek other alternatives

As above - bunch of charlatans.

The Mcr depot tried to charge us £600 for the tiniest of car park door dings.

Avoid like the plag....corona virus.
