Got a significant birthday looming, can anyone recommend a good Greek Restaurant in Oxford?
Don't like to use TripAdvisor as reviews can vary.
Does it have to be Greek - had a really nice Mediterranean / Moroccan at https://keshoxford.com/ recently.
(I know Morocco is only partly on the Med, pedants, but the food is recognised as quite similar)
Another asking, does it have to be Greek?
We had our wedding meal hosted at the private dining room at Al-Shami in Jericho. Lebanese cuisine and it used to be up there as our favourite Oxford restaurant when we lived there.
Thanks for the recommendations, we're staying in Summertown. As it's the wife's birthday I thought I'd book a table somewhere, and she's always banging on about the lack of Greek restaurants in this part of the world. So probably best to play it safe.
Yes, Bodrum on the Cowley Road
Bodrum is Turkish food, do you mean the Greek Taverna just down a bit on Cowley Road?
For Turkish, go to NEF Istanbul on the Cowley Road.
I’m sorry it was a joke.
Bodrum is the best of the Turkish/ Persian/ Greek genre, (I’m speaking as a Greek Cypriot) and it has legendary status in our family. It’s really a few tables behind a kebab shop, but the food is really good. Not fancy enough though by the sounds, so also on the Cowley Road is Nef Istanbul and Antep, all in a row. Not Greek either.
Cowley Road a bit more ‘earthy’ than Jericho, but Jericho is nice.
There’s great pizza at Pizzeria Mama Mia in summertown if you need a lunch as well.
Ignore the cheesey name they have been around for ever.
Manos in Jericho have some tables and can do events I think
Never been myself but an old colleague with a Greek husband used to love Acropolis in Headington.
If you fancy a drive out, the Stags Head in Swalcliffe has a bit of a reputation for Greek food.
We've eaten at the Acropolis in Headington quite a few times- food and service are always good but they have no ac- this sounds trivial but we ate there last August and it was literally like a sauna, literally had to leave before we passed out.
Don't let it put you off but don't go if its a stupidly hot day...
