Bottom line is I have left it too late to find a B&B for Saturday 18th around Newcastle / South Shields.

All the main stream places I can find are either booked / charging £150 or both.

Is there anyone out there who knows the area who can recommend a B&B within striking distance of the Metro system that is worth a call ?

Thanks in advance.

Whitley bay might be a good place to start looking. 25 mins on metro into town, lots of B&Bs

Just had a look through late rooms and the ones that are free, I wouldn't be paying 219 quid to stay in.

If you look at Whitley Bay, avoid anything on South Parade. Too many bars and hen parties to sleep.

The Park Hotel in Tynemouth has twin rooms ATM but nothing else.

Sunderland is close now as well with the Metro open. Went there for the first time for the air show.

Strange lot down there mind

Right I'll start looking at Whitley Bay and Sunderland.

Quirrel, know what you mean on the costs, given that I'll probably not be having the breakfast either.

Given there are 50,000 runners and their friends / families you can't blame the B&Bs for trying to make a quick profit.

Have you tried the Universities? I believe you can book room in the halls of residence for the weekend. I suspect it maybe full but if you look on runnersworld forum I am sure you will be able to find a contact number.

The Corner House is charging 219 quid.

Tell them you are running for charity and to stop being c***s.

If you can't find anything on the Metro line
Have a look at at somewhere further South on the East coast main line
You'll get an early train & the station is right in the city centre

Darlington is only 40 mins or so away or Durham 20mins
Darlington Premier inn has vacancies - the station is about a mile away

Uplink,

Just tried Darlington Premier Inn website and this shows "no space".
Can you let me know what site you tried ?

the corner house is charging 219 quid, as in the corner house on the coast road??? Jesus, they'd have to pay me that to stay in that toilet!

FWIW Corbridge has lots more BnB's than Hexham. It's a 10 minute walk to the station though, which is over the other side of the river.

I'd double check train times before booking there though.

Success,

Kings Hotel Darlington - now booked ( thanks Uplink )

Not the cheapest B&B ever, but as stated local to train station, has car parking and at £65.00 far better than most.

Train in is about £10, so all in all I'm happy.

Thanks to everyone for speedy replies and advice.

I'm not sure if Newcastle Uni is, but Northumbria Uni won't be as the students come back that weekend. Traffictastic!

If you're in a car, there's plenty of free on street parking right next to the station

You'll have no trouble finding a spot on a Sunday
