Personal cargo drones.

Whenever you find yourself out and about and need to carry something home that you can't fit on your bike/in your car/in your bag, you get your phone out and a cargo drone appears to take it for you. Or if you're at Asda say on your bike, you can fill a trolley then the drone can bring it home.

Much easier than personal transport since you wouldn't have to worry as much about safety etc.

given they can't carry more than a go-pro for more than about 15mins it might be easier just to get a taxi.

If it's too heavy for you to carry home on your bike, you're going to need a MASSIVE drone and a lot of energy to fly it home. As jam bo says, much cheaper by taxi.

you wouldn't have to worry as much about safety

Because the threat to human life from thousands of trolley loads of cheap beer flying around our towns and cities on an unproven technology platform that could easily be hacked or otherwise disrupted/repurposed is negligible?

what if the battery runs out and it lands on a child/baby robin decapitating it?

You wouldn't have to worry *as much* about safety.

Not the same as those tiny camera things. Big drones.

what if the battery runs out and it lands on a child/baby robin decapitating it?

If it's clever enough to fly itself, it's clever enough to know if it hasn't got the battery power to make a drop.

We can't be far off producing personal flight drones that will be strong enough to carry people, interesting times we live in, as they sing at Epcot 'now is the time, now is the best time'

cause no-one going to invent a jammer that can bring down drones, or even just use a catapult to simply attack them with..

They could, but they can also throw paving slabs at cars. Doesn't mean cars can't work.

Very hard to jam GPS as the antenna is directional (pointing upwards), plus it's relatively easy to null out a directional narrow band jammer.

I think current experiences with 'Internet Of Things' would prove that such devices are amongst the least secure from external access.

I wonder what the equivalent of the Berlin lorry will be once there are lots of autonomous cars, let alone significant numbers of low flying autonomous aircraft - the opportunity for terrorism is huge.

No. Not that big.

Only the badly designed ones.

Currently encompassing 'all of them' 🙂

You only have to look at how Russia has infiltrated both major parties in the US and is now switching it's focus to Germany to understand that there is no safe level of security for anything that connects to a network.

It's human error as much as anything. For the Clinton hack someone flagged a phishing email as 'legitimate' due to an autocorrect issue...

Maybe all those plebs littering the hills could use them to carry their oh so heavy coke cans and chocolate wrappers back down.

Or even better - harpoon the litter and winch it back up into the drone for delivery to the recycing center.

Or even better still - cruise the skies videoing people who do it and then laser them.
