Came across this earlier today and thought it was fantastic. Anyone else found a great cover version recently?
You'll be glad you asked
Always love PJ's stab at this.
That's pretty good Rob. Takes me back to part of my youth in Brum's rock clubs!
PJ Harvey version is excellent!

Please, nobody post the Disturbed cove of Sound of Silence.
this, indie, ravey version of neil young
Hot 8 Brass Band- sexual healing
beat me to itPlease, nobody post the Disturbed cove of Sound of Silence.
and a few others 😉
Sorry DezB, thought I remembered a thread but my google search did not pull up anything on first page of results.
Slowoldman. Is that an alternative cover of Leopardskin Pillbox Hat?
Led Zeppelin were amazing at that kind of re-invention! Still love them even with their notorious borrowing!
The brass version of Sexual Healing is ace!
Please, nobody post the Disturbed cove of Sound of Silence.
Hell no!
St Etienne are so good. Underrated IMHO.

Ha!
jamj1974 I love that. A few years ago they released a few live gigs from the Phillmore on iTunes. Each night finished with three covers, Beatles, the Band, Stones etc. My favourite is the Neil Young covers. A few years ago I saw Rich Robinson in Glasgow and I think he finished with two or three Neil Young songs, best gig ever.
not the best quality but if we're talking Led Zep
Close IHN, but I give you Cash & Strummer...
Heart do a fantastic version. I'm not a big fan of their own songs - but they do this a lot of justice.IIRC Plant is a big fan of Nancy & Ann, I'm sure they have done some other LZ tunes too.
I love the foo fighters version of pink Floyd have a cigar
/thread
Apparently this is a cover aswell.
Love this...
Love Thunder Road but when you get past the bombast it's a desperate story, 2 kids jumping off the world because they've got nothing else, this version just nails it (if you doubt me, listen to the Promise- "Thunder Road, we were gonna take it all then threw it all away")
Led Zeppelin > the artists they reinterpreted.
The high water mark of rock n roll (so far).
Aren't all Led Zep songs reinterpreted versions of old blues songs 😉
Nickelback are God awful, but this is tremendous.
PostModernJukebox some spectacular "covers"

Shermer75, **** yes! That'll be stuck in there for another month or so.
AC/DC cover. This is genius - well worth a watch
I'd be amazed if this hasn't popped up before
Bohemian Rhapsody polka, played inside a rusty Polo

<now listening to Iron Horse>
But since we went this direction, always room for a bit of 2Cellos
This group are awesome in their own right but this cover is epic!

Eddies, XL's & The Costermonger! Too much snakebite & black to renember them all that clearly
There's some seriously good stuff in this thread, but seeing as we've gone in the direction of quirky, kinda fun covers that aren't worth a second listen I give you:
not sure whether great or grates
But to be fair practically everything Hellsongs have done is awesome.
Some Bob Dylan...
I actually quite like that Children of Bodom cover
Off on a PMJ tangent now.
I would have completely spazzed out if I'd been in the audience for that Walk cover. It simultaneously activates my pleasure centre and outrage lobe.
<edit- ZOMG, their version of Heaven Can Wait is incredible. THANK YOU!>
Very fond of good covers, and this has been a long-time favourite:
And the 1988 original:
AC/DC Thunderstruck covered by Steve 'n' Seagulls is a hillbilly classic!
Great spoon work.
Lizzy Hale , acoustic cover of a Heart classic
a Heart classic
The phrase which invented the word oxymoron, surely!
A cover I'm particularly fond of, it manages to keep the darkness of the original, in a much simpler form:
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra

Well, I have to say you're not far wrong, although it's the one Heart song that you're most likely to hear on the radio, probably on Heart!
Not a favourite of mine, I prefer Crazy On You and Magic Man from Dreamboat Annie.
Much better power pop.
Speaking of which, I'm really rather fond of this, as well as the original:
T.a.T.u.: I don't think anyone needs to be told the title...
Because they're touring in autumn and this is epic in their set:
Blue monday
Pet Shop Boys,
You were always on my mind (Elvis)
A couple of decades passed until I found out that Queensryches 'gonna get close to you' was a cover. Damn fine one at that.
Judas priests cover of 'Diamonds and Rust' far surpasses the original.
End of thread.

One of only two UK a cappella number ones. The other was Caravan of Love by the Housemartins. Also a cover. 🙂
Well, I have to say you're not far wrong
I never am 😉
I have to say, to me "great cover" is also an oxymoron apart from very very few exceptions. None of which I can see on this thread... I mean Flying Pickets? I love a novelty hit*, but come on...
*I don't really
Jimi Hendrix's version of Bob Dylan's "All along the Watchtower"
Bryan Ferry's version of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy"
I am a huge fan of Cat Power, her covers of Joni Mitchell's Blue and Satisfaction and things to behold (as are most of her Covers and Jukebox albums).
I remember being very taken with Jeffrey Lewis's 12 Crass Songs.
My most recent purchase was Bonnie Prince Billy's Best Troubador, a 'tribute' album to the late great 'Hag'.
I was also extremely partial to a Luna cover of two (Indian Summer, Bonnie & Clyde, Sweet Child of Mine...).
However, my favourite at the moment is Gillian Welch's version of Go On Downtown
And heres another just for good measure:
An oldie but goldie (and one I think I always post on covers threads):
I have to say, to me "great cover" is also an oxymoron apart from very very few exceptions. None of which I can see on this thread... I mean Flying Pickets? I love a novelty hit*, but come on...
Why? Define 'cover'.
Which is the cover:
@ DezB - It's a bit of fun relax or don't whtevs man 😉
Submitted for the committees approval:
Blackballed again 😆
Walk on by
Have to agree with dez, vast majority of covers are no improvement on the original.
CZ, Wyatt wrote that yes?
