The future of Greater Manchester is assured!

With a fast link to London in the pipeline, and a new Mayor on the way too, things are looking up. It's great to see the government looking to a tried and tested model for economic growth and prosperity. Should have happened earlier though, other places have had all these things for a decade now and Manchester is always going to be playing catch-up to the economic and cultural power house of the mighty Doncaster!

Maxine, surely?

Committed socialist, from Bolton.
It's either her, Mark E Smith or John Cooper Clarke.

I know whose face I want to see on the posters.

More political overhead, no tax raising powers ? I predict this will make no actual difference, you will get more soundbytes though and some extra elections.

A bit like London? With the added bonus of a useless mayor also.

With a fast link to London

A fast link to the continent bypassing London would be better, and high speed interconnects with other cites and ports.

its not another level its taking an exisiting level sat hidden away in whitehall and putting in Manchester where it should be. Once that happens you should be asking what job MPs in the area have to do anymore, that fella for Tatton for a start. 😉

They must think we've just fallen out of a tree

Look here you frightful northern types. We're delivering the democracy you crave. Express your gratitude at the ballot box in May, you whippet breeding monkeys!

Its tokenism. Pure and simple. Its basically a glorified PCC. And we all know how that public have wildly embraced that particular [s] gravy-train for failed, washed up politicians [/s] celebration of democratic accountability

**** off Gideon!!

I'll believe that there will be a meaningful benefit when I see number of seats and power reducing at westminster - cos if we really are devolving power then we don't need more politicians do we ??
