I'm not watching it as I'm uncomfortable with the premise.
It feels a bit too much like an opportunity to gloat at the behaviour of the lower classes and I'm not sure it's the sort of thing we should be encouraging.

I'm not so sure I'd call them poor sods, the same crappy jobs that I took to keep me off the dole were there for those poor sods also.
Maybe they choose to live like that?

I cannot watch these programs without wanting to put a foot through my (smaller than their 50" 4k 3d) telly ...

Divide and conquer..

The oldest trick in n the book

If the ruling classes keep us fighting amongst ourselves, the chances are that we won't notice them hoofing us ALL in the slats..

Shame on you if you fall for it

Biggest beneficiaries of state benefits are companies who pay minimum wage and whose employees need working tax credit, and private landlords who get all the housing benefit.

It was an interesting concept. It was also clear that years on benefits had meant that they weren't used to budgeting in the same way we were.

Concerned that the Hull couple have been set up to fail - they have a business plan of sorts, but appear to have no advice to give them a chance.

The single Mum may make something of it. Good for her for treating her friends and family to a meal out. The guy with the party business idea worries me!

Awful nasty TV to demonise all benefits claimants. Many need help and are genuine but will not appear on T.V.
Look over there bogeymen like Google and doleys to blame while government fails to do little and thrusts violently with their hands on your shoulders.

That sounds brilliant. I'd love a racoon.

We were discussing the topic(not the prog)at work today, brought up by a conversation about tax and married couples allowances.
One of the guys has a neighbour with 3 kids, the youngest now at school, different fathers etc. She has been told to find work or lose benefits. Her answer is/has been to get pregnant again 🙄

How are these people chosen. They just look like the stereotype hait bate that is popular with TV shows. I can't see this going well and i feel sorry for the media/public backlash that they will get.

A spokesman for production company Dragonfly, which is behind the show, told Liverpool Echo the raccoon purchase was a positive moment.

To be fair, the raccoon purchase is part of his business plan to do animal themed kids parties, it wasn't bought as a pet.

But the insurance cover for the racoon and partys will be astronomical. That's why i don't understand why he would go fo a animal especially something that can take a childs finger off, plus vet care and certificates for the animal. Just doesn't seem like a logicla step to take.

Haven't watched the programme but worth remembering ONS figures showing of the total welfare budget in 2013/14 that:
42% = pensions
15% = incapacity benefits
2% unemployment benefit

So we need to be looking at things like the <vote buying> triple lock if we want to get angry about inappropriate levels of government spending...
Housing benefit = 11%. Not sure how much goes to private landlords to via BLT but again - if we want to get angry...

Best not let TV programmes made for entertainment shape our views on politics IMO - it does us no favours
