Need to buy some more gravel for a path (on a slight slope) and a driveway. Base is dirt, although about 20 years ago (last time I did this) I put some black weed-control membrane, and will do same again this time. Last time I bought three bags, and typically wasn't quite enough, so will go for more.
Last time I bought the cheapest gravel, not knowing there was a difference in gravel types. I'm an idiot! So this time - I think I'm supposed to buy "angular" or "sharp" gravel, that is less likely to move/get rutted from cars/slip down the slope.
What should I be buying, and bonus points for a link to the right stuff at Jewsons?
We live up a VERY steep track and what we put down is highly prone to movement from vehicles and/or rain runoff (Cumbria, so we do get a tad damp occasionally)..
We either use road planings (black, ugly and cheap - but effective) or 'crush and run', which is more natural looking and binds well. Not decorative, mind, but does stick in place well.
Oh, and rent a whacker plate to compress it.
Yes, the stuff you want is MoT type 1 -I live down a steep, un-tamacced road/ gravel track with 3 other neighbours and this is the stuff we use. We get it by the truckload and the local builder flattens it with his road roller. You can ‘finish’ it with a finer grade that gives a smoother finish.
