Just seen this Studio Ghibli re-release at the cinema.

I would never have guessed that animation could be so utterly heartbreaking.

I've seen most of the Studio Ghibli animations, particularly Myazaki's, but having read the details, I just can't bring myself to watch that one. I really don't want to sit quietly sobbing through a movie.

Saw it a couple of months ago on Film 4.

Goes on the list with The Deerhunter, Sophie's Choice, The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas & Pan's Labyrinth.

All films that make me very sad indeed.

Pan's Labyrinth is a film I can never bring myself to see again. The human monsters are so unspeakable, I just can't watch it again. Never watched the others. I'm afraid I watch films to be entertained, no matter how brilliant and 'worthy', for want of a better word, I just can't watch a film that's going to leave me upset and miserable.
I guess I'm just shallow like that.

Yeh, no happy ending with this one.

I had to watch Spirited Away to drag me out of melancholy.

- Thanks guys - I've had the DVD for some years - haven't managed to watch it yet - and thanks to this thread I'll leave the cellophane on it 🙂

oooh, I'm not sure if I could watch it again.

But if I ever do, I'll have Totoro on standby to pick me up again.

Real sweets. We got some in Hiroshima before I even knew what they were.

Poofs!

😛

Actually Raging Bull does get to me, and the scene in True Romance where Dennis Hopper's charater protects his son and know he'll get killed for it.

Pans Labyrinth is an amazing film on so many levels. Not seen if for a while, may be due a re-watch.
