I'm sure I asked this before, but there's new information.
What graphics card can I get for a Small Form Factor PC that can play something like Empires of Undergrowth, for as cheap as possible? S/H acceptable.
Is it "low profile" that I need to look for? eBay seems to return loads of £10 jobs, which are not likely to be much cop are they?
What about this? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gigabyte-GeForce-GT-1030-Silent-Low-Profile-2GB-GDDR5-Graphics-Card-384-Core-1-/324369788256?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292
Dunno about the needed spec but that was a budget card about 3 years ago that was crippled in a mid-life refresh.
gddr5 1030 cards are available again
Wot, that's really shit.
Some of those GT 1030s are advertised as having DDR5 though. Presumably one can check via the card version or something?
This may help (there is some blurb after the recommendations), you might not actually need a low profile as opposed to a shorter card, if you can find out how long a card your case can take you can narrow stuff down using the selector tools
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/products/video-card/
And yes, using the selector you can specify memory type.
As it's an indie game can you not just run it on the onboard graphics? If you have that type of cpu
You probably want to look for something with the suffix "mini" or "aero"
You can use GPUzi to check what version of the card you have if you don't trust the seller. We've got a DDR5 1030 and it's fine for what we use it for (Saturn, Dreamcast, PS2, Gamecube & Wii emulation in an i3 6100 SFF pc and it'll run most recent-ish* games on medium settings ok too.) It's a decent budget graphics card and it only draws 30w so you don't have to worry too much about getting a beefier psu.
* the most recent we've got is Descenders which the 1030 will run on 'medium' with some effects turned on at 60fps.
Ah right I thought the card sizes were standard things. I'll take a look in the box, thanks.
Squirrelking's link suggests MSI Computer Low Profile PCI-Express Video Card GT 710 1GD3H LPV1 as the best cheap card. The number 710 seems a bit low, but it is cheap and my daughter might have to be buying it herself.
The minimum spec for the game is nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB which suggests that I'd be better off going for a second hand 1030 if I can find a genuine ddr5 one right? Even though it's more money than the 710. I suppose what I'm after is best power per £, under £100 or so.

Yeah, they'll typically have LP at the end of the description.
That doesn't mean they'll fit every SFF PC, I've got a pic somewhere of someone using a pair of tin snips to free up room in a case...
Something like this would work well, if it's in budget. It's reasonably powerful, it'll certainly run any game you like if you can live with 1080p resolution and it It draws power directly from the board. I've got the non-LP version in my Work PC and it seems happy enough running games.
