Grand Tour 'Sand Job'

standard Grand Tour affair. Baffoonary, unrealistic scenarios, cars, fat old blokes.... take it at face value and its entertaining enough. Changing the face of motoring, absolutely not.

I enjoyed it, knowing i would need to endure the above, but equally wouldnt have felt i missed out if it passed me by.

A bit like the bloke who went to his GP and said ‘I’m really worried about my sexual proclivities, I’m into flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality’, the doctor said ‘Mr Clarkson, you’re flogging a dead horse’.

It followed the formula that worked for them for 20+ years. It just so happens that it's old and tired and bloated, a bit like Clarkson. I'm not a hater, I loved their Top Gear and earlier Grand Tour things but I guess they had a contract to fulfil with Bezos.

It passed an hour or so.

I have to add that I was always a massive fan of Top Gear so I was wanting to enjoy it and hoped I would have given the reviews. I loved the sound that Jaaag made though 🙂

If you enjoyed TG and the new show was:

completely contrived from start to finish and utterly unbelievable (albeit with some interesting places that they passed through).

Then I'd say it's you that's changed not TG/Grand Tour 🙂

The only good bit for me was the 20 second look at the Morgan dakar style car. 200k is insane, but it looks cool.

Why? It's hugely successful around the world.

Its a week or two away with their best mates having an absolute laugh no doubt.

It had it's moments but overall I was disappointed in it. They've done unsuitable cars in the desert before and this wasn't a patch on the original. Even the cocking about was sub-par.

It was around 2 hours and 10 minutes too long

I’m a big fan of these three, I’ve watched it slowly decline. But that just nosedived, absolutely terrible. What a shame to end it so badly.

I've never fancied watching a Grand Tour episode again, whereas there are plenty of old Top Gear episodes I still enjoy.

I enjoyed it, the scenery was amazing. It's a bit like an old school Bond movie - a vehicle to hang a travelogue on.

It's more a travel show than motoring show,  but that's its charm.  I'll give it a try some time

They are just putting the cash into the retirement fund and dicking about. Who can blame them just take jeffs cash while it's on offer for minimum effort.

I think we've been spoilt by Youtube nowadays, I can watch TJ & Mac building cool stuff and 4wd-ing to some amazing places in Australia, Itchy boots being nice to locals all over the world, and Whistlin' diesel larking about far more than TG ever could.

Gave up ages ago. Remember the tiff needell and Chris goffey days, enjoyed the halcyon days of 3 buffoons larking around,wasn't convinced by GT right from the start, a bit meh.

Plenty good car content creators on YouTube these days like Number 27, Tyrrells Classic Workshop, channels from garage mechanics etc, stuff from the likes of Gordon Murray Design... last thing I'd think of would be to turn the TV on and watch TG or GT

I thought it was just weak. Only interesting bit was James May in the old library. I suspect the naffness of a lot of the scripted elements comes down to Amazon’s target audience in the US.

Makes you realise how good the Vietnam / Bolivia / Burma specials were, though.

Sort of enjoyed it but looking up the locations on Google Earth afterwards revealed just how contrived a lot of it was. The start point is right next to a main road, not only served by the railway as they claimed. The tunnel is a few miles away and totally passable, no land mines etc plus they went through it the wrong direction. The river crossing has a bridge a mile to the west whereas they only showed the satellite images to the east.

Seeing as it's the penultimate one I've given it a bit of leeway. Did notice that Richard Porter wasn't listed in the credits on this one though so maybe that made a difference.

First time I've watched one and not bother to get to the end. Didn't enjoy it, it's past it's best and needs putting out to grass. Sadly not entertaining and the car content is poor. I'd rather and do, watch Hammond on the Smallest Cog and Drivetribe and think that's way way better than this Amazon guff.

Which is odd for a 2 and a quarter hour long episode. Was it on fast forward a lot? Did you fall asleep for over an hour? Did you even watch it or are you just doing that weird internet thing of making comments about stuff that you have absolutely no idea about? Whatever, being ok for less than half of its length isn't great. Mind you, I watch Welsh rugby which has a lower hit-rate. 😀

There's so little actual car content that they might as well have been using garden mowers or camels, which would have been far more spontaneously entertaining.
