You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I'm looking for some of the stuff that is usually used at the back of kitchen cupboards / shelves etc, for finishing the back of a pigeon hole style wine rack I've made. Any idea where I can buy sheets of this?
I've never actually seen this for sale. How much do you need, 150x720?
Try a few local kitchen suppliers, they may have some spare. I've binned loads of it over the years.
Your only other option is mfc boards, try HPP in oldham. Might also be able to supply the hardboard too.
Alternatively, use 6mm ply and varnish it

That was to be my suggestion.
Not something you'll find all that easily in small amounts. As a cheat I've used laminate flooring in the past.
An option might be to try the sick furniture corner in Ikea, the bit near the checkout where you can buy shop-soiled and ex display stuff. Sometimes they have bundles of assorted boards and panels and you might find something that works for you there.
As a google, the term you might be looking for is 'paper overlay' for that grain effect, I sourced some Oak Paper Overlay ply for a job but the supplier would only either sell me all their stock - 85 sheets - or non at all, so I went with the laminate floor bodge as above, which worked fine for my purposes.
Maybe just use 6mm MDF and varnish it.
Certainly much sturdier than hardboard.
