Just had a call from a very despondent GF. She set out to ride 40km in order to win a Garmin badge and her watch died at 39km!
Apparently it autosaved the ride, is there a way she can ride back to where the watch died and ride the last km and then stitch the GPX file together so that it counts as one activity?
Any help appreciated.
Easy to do manually, GPX files are simple text but you'd then need to modify the timestamps. I use fitfiletools but there's also https://gotoes.org/strava/Combine_GPX_TCX_FIT_Files.php which is what Strava point you at in their support article.
I'm sure there is a tool somewhere, possibly even online.  If you just wanted to do it youselft then they are just text files that you can open in any text editor such as Notepad++. Take a look and you will see what the format is. Just look at the 1k of the new recording and you will see that there is just a header and a footer plus a whole bunch of track points that you will need to cut and paste into the original file
The real problem will be that the if the watch is recording a data point every few seconds then that will be a few hundred points with a tim on each of them :(. I would just cheat and do a copy/replace in your text editor to move them closer to the real time. So, if the time looks like this on each point
2021-02-20T11:48:32.000Z
Just do a replace on '2021-02-20T11:4' to '2021-02-19T09:1' for example if she reroad the route the next day at 11 instead of 9am. It won't be exact but it will be close enough for practical purposes and avoid a lot of messing around
GPX files are in text format, you can open them in Windows Notepad or any other text editor. It's fairly easy to see the structure and work out which bits to paste in where, but always work on a copy as it may take a few attempts.
